Historia
A former Medal of Valor winner, Minnesota detective Alexander Rupert is now under subpoena by a grand jury on suspicion of corruption. So when he's asked to look into the false identity of a car-accident victim named James Putnam, a man who in fact died 15 years earlier, Rupert sees a potentially big case and an opportunity to regain his respectability. But the investigation puts him in the path of "the Beast", the nom de guerre of Drago Basta, a cunning veteran of the Balkan wars.

Too many deaths
Revisado: 05-01-24
Too many violent deaths.
Too many unnecessary deaths.
Too many deaths all together.
Otherwise engaging read.

Living lives of others
Revisado: 11-14-17
The story is well written and grips you from the very beginning. The performance of two readers is outstanding. Some reviews expressed disappointment at the way this well conceived story ends but I found it to be a good metaphor for the societies' obsession of living through the lives of the others. This engaging debut offers insights into human psyche and I am looking forward to other novels by this promising author.

Historia
When his teacher sets the class a History project, Sam cannot choose which bit of History he prefers, so decides to do all of it. His version of History is a rumbustious collection of half remembered facts, assembled roughly in the right order, and glued together with alarmingly confident misunderstanding. Sam takes us from Ancient Egypt right up to Last Week with the flair of a bright eyed nine year old.

I loved it!

This is hilariously funny take on history. Requires knowledge of history to spot the humour, so not really a children's read.
