As a military guy myself and someone who had to spend time working at some of the described establishments, I found this book both entertaining and intriguing.
I noticed early on the political affiliation of the author is prominent throughout the book, I particularly enjoyed hearing French fries referred to as freedom fries. I thought that gem had all but been purged from the American lexicon.
Nevertheless, the author provides a unique perspective as someone who is a part of the upper middle class (a demographic that is often a key client at the jobs sampled). He accurately and hilariously recount some of the most infuriating parts of working in these jobs. I think my favorite part was the author's description of the type of customer that frequents ice cream parlors.
I think that despite the authors obvious conservative political tendencies, this book makes a great argument for the need for higher wages at some of the most famous lower paying jobs. Worth the read!
