Historia
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. They were survivors of His Majesty’s Ship the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. While the Wager had been chasing a Spanish treasure-filled galleon known as “the prize of all the oceans,” it had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia.

The brutality of the times. Being a sea faring man was a dangerous pursuit.

The book was so inhuman that it was difficult to listen to all of the hardships and injuries the crewmen endured during their voyage.

One of the most distressing and complicated murder mysteries I have listened to.
Revisado: 09-14-24
Pedophylia is never a pleasant subject. The upside: Forewarned is for-armed. Since I have no children, this story was a cautionary tale to share with my friends who may be vulnerable. Carlin Coben is one of my favorite authors and since this book was not all about golf or basketball, I was immediately hooked. Harlon can always infuse a story with appropriate humor. A mercy relief for this tragic storyline.

Historia
Tennis has been very good to sports agent Myron Bolitar. He represents two of the hottest young stars in the game. But when his female player is murdered in broad daylight at the U.S. Open and his male player becomes the prime suspect, Myron's got a whole new match to win. His investigation leads to an old murder, the mob, a crooked senator, a jealous mother, and someone who's determined to shut down his search for good.

Myron Bolatar has become my favorite mystery author even though I am not a tennis nor golf fan or player. Myron’s witty repartee sprinkles his
Books with laugh-out-loud humor. I’m looking forward to his next audio book.

A unique take on relying upon a dog to ferret out a murderer - especially because I am a cat lover😉! But the dog was the solution to the murder. Very clever indeed. A fun listen as I prepared my dinner this evening 🥰.

I thought the Story was demeaning for the lap dancers. I did appreciate that the girls recognized the dangers they faced and fortunately there were staff members- bouncers- who could resolve dangerous situations. Another cautionary tale about the lust for power and money.

The nuanced complexity of the trial was riveting.
Revisado: 12-29-23
Often the witnesses sounded repetitive: the phrases “I do” and “I am” were common. Just a minor annoyance though. The defense lawyer’s strategy and analysis of the jury’s reaction was masterful. The use of excessive force to protect an unconscious victim from serious harm was such an unusual and controversial take on the trial. This audio recording is a huge cut above any other murder trials I have ever listened to. I highly recommend it.
