Similar to other stories, by other authors, even the characters are similar; however, I still enjoyed it and will continue with the series.

Historia
Of course, if there were only one thing under Liscor, there would be far less to fear. However, the dungeon continues to be a threat. At the same time, Goblins continue to roam northern Izril, but not all of them are as hostile to people as Tremborag or the Goblin Lord. Will the Unseen Emperor of Riverfarm make that distinction, however? A reckoning is coming as old faces and new reemerge. And all the while, The Wandering Inn is still serving food and respite and even plays to adventurers and Antinium alike. But something is coming from the dungeons. And it—they—are hungry.

Another 5 star listen!
Revisado: 02-12-23
When I first read a few negative reviews complaining that this latest installation "wandered" around and provided no closure, and had missing characters, I put off starting it for a few weeks. I have no idea what they are referring to because this is one of the best yet and is every bit as great as the others, and is now one of my favorites.
In the past few books, I wasn't thrilled about the hobs at the inn. I felt the story could have been just as good, and maybe even better without them but then the Blood of Liscor was released and I have since changed my mind. Not only did the characters finally develop, the evolution of the goblins in general also began to become apparent, and by the end, I was a huge fan of the hobs and feel they added value to the story and I can't wait to see what happens next.
Ryoka's absence I feel is understandable. She's on a journey of her own and the story will eventually circle back to her. The author didn't abandon her. Her story is coming soon and when it arrives, it'll be worth the wait.
And can we talk about the narrator? I've been a member of Audible since day one and have listened to hundreds of books, and she's probably the most talented and versatile narrator out there. Such talent!
I think some listeners may be unaware that this is a web series, which is constantly progressing, and is not written in the same manner as traditional books.

Scenes stolen right out of Indian Jones and others
Revisado: 06-12-21
I truly enjoyed the first book in this series. It was exciting and fresh and high-energy. This one was forced and had a number of scenes that seemed to be stolen out of various movies, including several Indiana Jones movies. Much of the story was too predictable. Even the "twist" at the end.
I am not sure what went wrong with this book. It disappoints. The first in the series, however, was a great listen!

Has potential but is lacking on multiple levels
Revisado: 06-12-21
First, I have to say that I like the idea of the this series. It has potential, but it's too weak and needs better editing in my opinion. The author has good ideas, the plot was okay and this could have been a fun series, but there are several things that caused me to abandon the series completely. I really did try to stick it out because the storyline has such potential, but the books are amateurish and the writing quality is poor. I think a good editor could have made this series a fan favorite.
The first book was better than the second. The second book just started to unravel into a bizarre mix of a mystery novel and random Wikipedia-like notations explaining things that require no explanation. I got a quarter way through the second novel and just couldn't continue.
1. The author is too wordy. That may sound odd when discussing a written work, but why take three paragraphs to describe inconsequential details that have no bearing on the story and frequently distract from it? Boosting the word count?
2. Constant sidelines to lecture and explain things that require neither. E.g.,, lecturing on the purpose and importance of malpractice insurance in the middle of a paragraph about something else. Odd to say the least.
3. Overexplaining things. The author seems to feel the readers are ignorant of many things and frequently stops mid story to explain it in a lecturing tone, then continues with the story. It's bizarre.
4. The narrator was all wrong for this book. He wasn't awful, but doesn't do different voices well, resulting in the character Max, sounding like a doddering old man. He actually did better on the female accents than the male accents. He did however, do a great impression of actor Graham Greene when performing one of the male voices, but it was a poor choice for the character.
I like the the idea of the character and some of the storylines enough that if a reedited version were to be published, I'd give it another try.

Up until now, Montana's journey really only went one direction: up. But now he's back at square one, stuck on top of a mountain with only the most basic gear to help get him back to Coggeshall. It's going to be a long walk. But not a boring one.

A good installment in the series. Some flaws.
Revisado: 11-30-20
I passed up this series many times because the cover artwork did nothing to draw me in. The reviews however, did. Based on the reviews I decided to give it a chance and I'm happy I did because I LOVE this series! That being said, I just want to say that while I love Fritz, I do not love the landshark or the flying frog. Both did nothing to add to the story and were awkward and odd.
And enough of the prinkies already!
Other than that, the series continues to be one of my favorites. I really like that there has been no love interest. The main character and storyline are strong enough not need one. Well done!

Never judge a book by it's cover. Great find!
Revisado: 11-30-20
I was an avid reader my entire life. As my career progressed and my family grew, I had less time for reading and began to listen. I've been with Audible from the beginning and have listened to hundreds of books of many genres. In all these years, I've only ever written a review for one other author (PirateAba), so I guess I have some strong feelings about this author and all I can say is "thank you" to those that wrote reviews to clue in the clueless that a gem of a series was tucked away behind mundane book covers with unappealing artwork, because had they not, I would have missed out! I tore through these, and am now finished with the series and anxiously await the next installment. What I loved: The casual, realistic way the main character speaks. F-bombs and all. The dialogue is genius and the concept brilliant. I love that the main character was a bad guy before starting his new life. There is so much I love about this series, rather than write a book about how much I loved this book, I'll just say this..."download it now and enjoy!"

Ignore the reviews complaining about politics. This story has developed from whimsical fantasy to a solid series and in order to to do that, culture and yes, even politics must be introduced. The politics are a small part of the story and add to the development of the story. Sooooo much happens in this book that it's difficulty to summarize. This is my new favorite author and in more than ten years of listening, is the ONLY author I've ever taken time to review. The narrator deserves awards. She's incredible and I could (and did) listen to her for hours. Pirateaba, please ignore the poor reviews. Never stop writing. We need more Erin and Ryoka!

"No killing Goblins." So reads the sign outside of The Wandering Inn, a small building run by a young woman named Erin Solstice. She serves pasta with sausage, blue fruit juice, and dead acid flies on request. And she comes from another world. Ours. It's a bad day when Erin finds herself transported to a fantastical world and nearly gets eaten by a Dragon. She doesn't belong in a place where monster attacks are a fact of life, and where Humans are one species among many. But she must adapt to her new life. Or die.

I bought the book on a whim. At first I wasn't too sure, but after a few chapters I was really warming up to it and by the end I was a huge fan. You can watch (read) the write develop from into an inexperienced author into a master storyteller.
By the end of the Wandering Inn Book I was so invested that I felt a deep sense of loss at not having another book waiting in the series. I quickly learned that the series is part of a web-based series and I'm now a patron and now a loyal reader. Book one is great, book two is even better!

Keep the narrator, dump the author
Revisado: 08-28-17
What disappointed you about Loup-Garou: The Beast of Harmony Falls?
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?MIddle schoolers and maybe some high schoolers might like it. The book wasn't completely awful, but the author spent way too much time on pointless character and situation descriptions...really? 3 separate occurrences of discussing the love of Marion Berry pie. Groan. And the ridiculous dialects that are out of region for the area combined with child-like character dialog. E.g., describing how the hero's eyes were wide with wonder when learning the Sheriff also loved Marion Berry pie. Uh...weird. But again, the book was not awful and I think with a good editor, the author shows promise.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the idea. The plot was good, but the execution poor.
Which scene was your favorite?
The scary part where the monster went after two teenagers.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The narrator was great and the book's plot had potential.
Any additional comments?
There were many instances of wasteful discussion that did nothing except distract from the story line. Honestly, was it necessary to visit the topic of the Hero's love of Marion Berry pide three times when it had not impact on the story? And the odd and uncomfortable dialog and ridiculous use of dialects such as Cajun.
