Loved the story, hated the narration.

I love all Penny Reid stories, but I almost couldn't finish this one. The narration was incredibly horrible. It the series, the characters had a great Irish accent, then suddenly they had none in this book. And the female narrator was the worst I've ever heard.

Loved the story, not the Narration

I enjoyed the story of this first novel of the series. It reminded me of Elizabeth Peters Amelia Peabody mysteries in many ways and I would recommend it. But I think I will read the other books in the series via print. I listen to a lot of audible books and have never felt the need to warn someone off of one, but I found myself distracted from the story by the poor quality of the narration. The main character's voice was annoying. Her men, except for Stoker, often had a gravelly grating quality that was both unappealing and laughable at the same time. Read the book, and stay away from this narrator.

The method of the death is odd...the killer had no way in - or out - and the dog is nowhere to be seen. But the 'hows' and 'whys' of the murder are not the only mysteries, and it seems very likely that the killer is preparing to strike again.

Good story, but slow narration

Some parts made me laugh out loud. Narrator talked so slow I listened at 1.5X regular speed.
