Historia
The irreverent author of the cult classic Syrup hits his target in this satire on the wages of big capital. In Max Barry's hilarious vision of the near future, the world is run by giant American corporations, and employees take the last names of the companies they work for; The Police and The NRA are publicly traded security firms, and the U.S. government may only investigate crimes if they can bill a citizen directly.

A fantastic rendition of an exceptional book! Still not as good as reading it yourself, but certainly worth a listen if you haven’t got time or access to the physical copy.

Historia
The power of the Sixth Gate grows stronger within Raine each day—to control it, she needs lessons no living Draoihn can teach her. Her fledgling friendships are tested to a breaking point as she tries to face what she has become, and her master Ulovar is struck by a mysterious sickness that slowly saps the vitality from his body, leaving Raine to face her growing darkness alone. There’s only one chance to turn the tide of power surging within her—to learn the secrets the Draoihn themselves purged from the world.

A Slow Burn

It’s a slow approach, but worthwhile and beautifully written.

Historia
Raine can see—and speak—to the dead, a gift that comes with a death sentence. All her life she has hidden, lied, and run to save her skin, and she’s made some spectacularly bad choices along the way. But it is a rare act of kindness—rescuing an injured woman in the snow—that becomes the most dangerous decision Raine has ever made. Dangerous because the woman is fleeing from Redwinter, the fortress-monastery of the Draoihn, warrior magicians who answer to no king, and who will stop at nothing to reclaim what she’s stolen.

FANTASTIC!!
Revisado: 04-04-23
I don’t usually write reviews for books, as the experience of reading is such a personal one for me. That said, this was phenomenal.
If you’re looking for a GOOD book, with an excellent narrator, exquisite pacing, and compelling world-building…
…cannot recommend enough.

Historia
The future is blue - endless blue...except for a few small places that float across the hot, drowned world left behind by long-gone fossil fuel-guzzlers. One of those patches is a magical place called Garbagetown. Tetley Abednego is the most beloved girl in Garbagetown, but she’s the only one who knows it. She’s the only one who knows a lot of things: that Garbagetown is the most wonderful place in the world, that it’s full of hope, that you can love someone and 66% hate them all at the same time.

The most perfectly perfect book a F**kwit could ever want.
Revisado: 02-10-22
There is nothing in all the world more sweet, more rewarding, or more terrible than the last moment of a beautiful book. This is my MOST beautiful book.
The narrator is perfect. The story is soul-smashingly perfect. The pacing and the language and the poetry of this book is hatefully, perfectly perfect.
If you’re worried that it isn’t worth a whole credit for a short novella, you’re wrong. The Past Is Red is worth a hundred million billion credits. Spend one, get this book. Listen to it. ACTUALLY listen to it.
If, by the end, you haven’t fallen in Love a dozen times, if you haven’t cried and laughed and felt ashamed and alone and alive…
…you’re probably a F**ckwit.

Historia
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

Absolutely Charming
Revisado: 05-18-20
I’m not one who usually reads or listens listens to LitRPG stories, but Audible Originals have been surprisingly good in the last few months, and on a whim, I nabbed this one.
This story is absolutely charming.
The narrator is a delight, the story is whimsical and clever, and the nostalgia is much appreciated.
If you’re a fan of Original Nintendo-Era RPGs, tongue-in-cheek humor, and are easily charmed, this might be an audiobook for you.

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

The Nay-Sayers are Wrong.
Revisado: 02-10-20
Okay, so, I ALMOST didn’t use my credit for the month on this book. Some of the negative reviews were scathing, and I try not to pick up books unless they come recommended by people or sources I trust.
This trilogy won THREE Hugo awards, (I’ve never met a Hugo winner I didn’t Love...) So I ignored the nay-sayers.
THANK GOD!
I haven’t enjoyed a book this much since the first time I read Dune.
The sequels will be the first time I spend money for books beyond the free credits.
Guys, this book is wonderful.
The characters are beautiful, tragic, and desperately human. The setting is refreshingly new. The plot is...
...you get the point.
I hope you decide to ignore the negative reviews and give it a chance. Savor it. Take it slow, and PAY ATTENTION. The author is masterful in her storytelling.
That’s the strongest review I can give, but I wish I could give more.
