It was not worth the 2 year wait!
Revisado: 10-25-23
I recommend that everyone buy this book. However, it was not worth the two years of waiting. I was looking forward to learning more about Amari in his growth, and we did not get that. It was more of a novella then it was a book that caught me up on the lives of, the towns people.

Beautiful Love story.

I love this book. I read it over and over again. I like the chemistry of the characters, and I like how Ryan learned how to be in a committed relationship because he loves her.

Great Story
Revisado: 02-05-22
This was a really sweet and entertaining book. It’s full of flashbacks of their relationship. It was really nice to see Val London again. The author was really good with the twist and turns. I didn’t see any of them coming, which is very rare for me as a reader. I will probably read this book again. Great job!

Unfortunately Francine Review
First let me say I’m a huge fan of Joan Vassar. I’ve read all of The Black Series. I fell in love with the characters and the novels in the whole series. So when she told me she was writing a dark romance I was a little skeptical. I said to myself, Lord what is she doing now!
After reading unfortunately Francine I must say that I am ready to dive into the world of Troy and the gang. This book was, as always, well written but thought-provoking. It made me rethink what it means to be a good guy and a bad guy in a novel. It made me think about the injustice of the justice system. Most importantly it open my eyes to how lucky I am as a black person in America that I didn’t find myself in the wrong place at the right time.
As always Joan Vassar delivered on a great novel and I’m so excited to have the narration of Jakobi Diem and Nicole Smalls. I love how the narrators provided to a duet between the female voice and the male voice. It provided a lot of interesting interplay as I listen to the book. More than anything I love Jakobi‘s voice. He could literally read a cereal box’s ingredients and I will give it five stars. Well done Ms. Vassar, Mr. Diem and Ms. Smalls.

A great work of art!!
Revisado: 02-21-21
Joan Vassar is by far one of the uniquest Black voices in literature today! Her characters are quintessentially black. They’re not characters that could be covered in white skin and the tale still be the same; no her characters are black as the name of the novel states.
Why is this important? In a world where good black characters are so few and far between, Ms. Vassar has found a way to make a jewel of a novel and series that shows black excellence, black intelligence, black masculinity, black community, and last but not least black love!
Black readers are going to see people you know from your real life in these characters. Also, any and every reader will enjoy her 3 dimensional characters, her attention to detail & her authentic dialogue. Overall, it’s just a good damn book!
I have purchased every book she has written and every book in the Black series. I love these books. I read them twice a year. So when I saw she was going to Audible I knew I had to purchase and listen to it.
Though I love the Black series, I must say: Mr. Jakobi Diem!!!!! Sir, you breathed life into this book. You, sir, added texture and nuance to an already exceptional work of art. You did the damn thing!
As a fan of this book and this series, I am so proud to see the birth of a new wave of love and acceptance of the Black series. New and old fans alike will not be disappointed. Black is a novel that must be on your top 5 to read list!!
I can’t wait for book 2!

I really enjoyed this novel. The characters in the story were fire. I won’t go into great detail but I will say I read the book then read it again. Immediately! I’ve never done that before.

The story is wonderful but the narrator is horrible!! Her voice is so fake sounding. I was irritated listening to the her narrate, but the story was really good!! If you can block out her voice and focus on the story it is worth the pain. I fell in love with the characters!!

What’s in a name? A lot. The name Tinaca, for example, has been passed down in the Jones family for generations of women. In fact, the Joneses name a Tinaca every other generation, to let the name breathe a little. To let each Tinaca shine. And shine is exactly what Tinaca Jones intends to do.

Ghetto and too much
Revisado: 01-06-20
The book is so ghetto. The woman sounds like society’s typical black character. As a black woman myself, I find this disconcerting. The narrative is rushed and full of snaps and figurative language that distracts from the story. Poor read!

But when he learns of Lavinia's desperate circumstances, he offers to find her a husband. Even better, he’ll find her a prince. As usual, there’s no problem Parth can’t fix. Horrible narrator
Revisado: 03-28-18
The narrator was so awful that I struggled with finishing the book! His voice for the women was squeaky and irritating! His voice was authentic for the men, but he sound like a man imitating a woman’s voice. Not believable at all! It was hard to listen to the novel! Poor job!
