This feels like it aged badly. In a world where it has become increasingly clear that Facebook misuses its power, the author spends entirely too much time fawning over them.

Annoyingly, audible got me to add this excerpt to my library and now there's no easy way to get rid of it.

This anthology of excellent stories read by excellent performers is almost completely ruined by the presentation of lackluster recordings and the complete lack of a usable table of contents.

The chapter breaks are entirely arbitrary and rise to perhaps the worst demonstration of laziness I have ever seen on Audible.

Racist and anachronistic, I can't recommend this one. Aside from the obvious shortcomings of the story, it should be noted that this work ends essentially mid narrative. The performance is professional but unremarkable. Fans of Poe-era pulp fiction, will likely enjoy the work as a period piece, but broader audiences could do better elsewhere.

A fascinating world, but full of characters that are consistently so weak that by the end I really didn't care who lived and who died. I think there were amazing opportunities here that were squandered. Still, recommended for fans of the genre, if with some reservation.

Stay for the epilogue which is quite possibly the most powerful part of the entire book.
