This compelling narrative is also a memoir, told lovingly by Helmi’s son, David, of growing up under the wings of these strong women in an unusual American family.

This was an amazing tale on many levels. It was both an epic portrayal of one of the most fascinating and dangerous periods of world history and a deeply personal tale of a family's resilience despite the generational trauma it faced. The reader's soothing voice kept me engaged throughout the entire story. Highly recommended!
