Not the best of the series.
Revisado: 06-27-20
Way too much blah blah blah. story goes off on way too many tangents and the author struggles at times to GET TO THE DAMN POINT. a good story at times but frustrating to listen to.

where the series goes to die.
Revisado: 03-01-20
loved the first 5 books in the series. They were absolutely amazing. these last two? meh. Larry needs to stop rushing to crank books out and perhaps also drop the co-authors. Siege and Guardian were rushed, predictable, and lackluster. Guardian in particular was one thing after another, more like a bad roller coaster ride than a well-plotted novel. I'm a big fan of Larry Correia. This book is not deserving of his name.

Great story, kept me glued. Ending was a bit weak, but left wide open for a sequel -- I am hoping it gets one.

Historia
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Awesome Story, Horriffic Narrating.
Revisado: 05-05-14
Would you listen to A Game of Thrones again? Why?
Yes, because it is a great, immersive storyline.
Would you be willing to try another one of Roy Dotrice’s performances?
No. Absolutely Not.
Any additional comments?
I love this series. So much so that I bought the audiobook despite having already read the paper versions and avidly follow the HBO series. The material is great. The narrator is attrocious.
Roy Dotrice does a good, very good job with the general narrative and the lowborn characters. Where he really stumbles is in trying to use the same Cockney accent for the highborn characters, and particularly the ladies. His falsetto when attempting to mimic a woman's speech is terrible. It can be really painful to listen to at times.
My other complaint with the narrator is an obvious lack of preparation for the material. The most glaring example that comes to mind is when the character Hodor speaks. As we all know, Hodor only has one word in his vocabulary -- 'Hodor' -- so you would think it would be pretty difficult for a professional, paid narrator -- particularly one who also happens to have played a bit part on the television series-- to screw it up. Sadly, Mr. Dotrice manages to do so with reckless alacrity.
In both the books and the tv series, whenever Hodor speaks, it is always a quick, simple word, as in, "Hodor". The pitch and tone of the word will very greatly depending upon his emotional state, but never, NEVER, does the character draw the word out like "HOoOoOoOoOoOoOoDoOoOoOoOr" as Mr. Dotrice does, Every. Single. Time.
It has a nails on the chalkboard quality that is not only painful to listen to,but is made all the more aggravating by its inaccuracy.
I was greatly disappointed to read that Mr. Dotrice had been retained to narrate the entire series.
At this point, I am debating whether or not to even buy book 2, and if I do so, it will only be in the desperate hope that someone has pulled the narrator aside and apprised him of his inaccuracies and shortcomings before letting him anywhere near the microphone to continue his onslaught against an otherwise excellent body of work.
