Western Grit and Action
Revisado: 08-04-21
One of Loius L’Amour’s best. Plenty of action in a time where justice wasn’t necessarily delivered by law. One line in the book was so humorous, I laughed out loud. However, this book is not comedy, it classifies as true western grit from a bygone era.

Loved It
Revisado: 04-21-21
Brian Freeman has quickly rose to the top as one of my very favorite authors! His books are multilayered, full of mystery, with suspense, wit, grit, and humor. They feature realistic emotion inside a sometimes complicated career. “Funeral For A Friend”, checks all the boxes. Had me hooked from the first to the last page.
Although the book touches on previous novels, Freeman does a great job weaving in the necessary details so that the reader doesn’t miss a beat. This can be read as a stand alone.
Thoroughly enjoyed the plot, the writing, the narration. Foul language kept to a minimum - no explicit sex scenes. Well done!

Historia
A coming-of-age tale for the young and naïve 17-year-old Catherine Morland, Northanger Abbey takes a decidedly comical look at themes of class, family, love and literature. Revelling in the sensationalist - and extremely popular - Gothic fiction of her day, the story follows Catherine out of Bath to the lofty manor of the Tilneys, where her overactive imagination gets to work constructing an absurd and melodramatic explanation for the death of Mrs Tilney, which threatens to jeopardise her newly forged friendships.

The story could have had more to it...I wish action, or drama, or something. But the Cast of Actors, doing to narration, was absolutely incredible! Brilliant voices, sound effects, music, the whole royal treatment! Very Classy!

Historia
He came west to the Rockies as a young runaway and grew into a legend among the already legendary frontier mountain men. They called him Preacher - a name that would become a monument to all who sought adventure in the savage wilderness of America's untamed west. The only man with the skills to lead a wagon train on the last leg of the rugged Oregon trail, Preacher knows they're headed into trouble. It's hard enough for a hundred greenhorns to survive the wilds of the northwest; being pursued by thieving renegade outlaws and Indians with a thirst for gold makes it damn near impossible.

Loved the Story and the Narrator
Revisado: 12-03-20
Got to start here with this book, if you want to know about the man they eventually call Preacher.
Awesome story. The narrator is perfect - like a cowboy, sitting across a campfire with you, sharing a story.

Historia
In 1949, things like this just didn’t happen: A quiet New Jersey resident took a morning walk with a 9 mm Luger pistol. In twelve minutes he murdered thirteen neighbors...and then went back to bed. Howard Unruh went from obscurity to infamy overnight. Even after his obsessive diaries were discovered - a catalogue of simmering rage, petty grievances, and sexual repression - the anomalous crime seemed incomprehensible. Succeeding decades would confirm that Unruh’s “Walk of Death” was just the beginning. The prototype for the modern mass murderer, he would usher in a new age of violence in America.

Lone Wolf Rampage Killer
Revisado: 11-23-20
It's sometimes hard to rate a book about horrendous subjects that involve true-crime... keeping in mind, my rating is not the subject itself, but on how well told, organised, and thoroughly depicted, the subject content is presented.
This true-crime audio account, "Rampage", bares the resemblance of a milestone in history of which we see more of this type of crime unfortunately in our times .... a "Lone-Wolf Rampage Killer", a single mass murderer, that has an apocalyptic rage, seeking to kill as many as he can, in the shortest time possible. In the USA, think: Stephen Paddock (killed 60), Devin Kelley (killed 25), James Huberty (killed 21), with countless more be injured from their attacks.
This is the story of Howard Unruh, who managed to kill 13 people in 13 minutes (12 immediately + 1 died a short time later). His attack was brutal, with no mercy, killing man, woman, girl, a 9 yr old boy, and a 2 yr old toddler that was looking through a window.
"In 1949, things like this just didn’t happen: A quiet New Jersey resident took a morning walk with a 9 mm Luger pistol". It's claimed from that day, things were never the same, and many people were outraged that Unruh, never got what he deserved. First degree murder or mental illness? After his obsessive diaries were discovered with journals of people on his list—he catalogued simmering rage, petty grievances, and sexual repression, all of which lead him to a desire, a thirst, that he MUST RETALIATE.
The succeeding decades would confirm that Unruh’s “Walk of Death” was just the beginning. The prototype for the modern mass murderer, he would usher in a new age of violence in America.

Historia
He meets women. He gains their trust. He kills them. That's all London police detective Maeve Kerrigan knows about the man she is hunting. Three women have been strangled in their homes, and it appears to be the work of the same sadistic killer. With no sign of break-ins, every indication shows that the women let their attacker in willingly. The victims' neighbors and friends don't seem to remember anything unusual or suspicious, and Maeve is almost at a loss about how to move forward with the investigation.

What a shame! I DNF’d this shortly into it. Any book that uses the offensive profanity and highly offensive phrases this one does - is crossed off my list... irregardless of it’s story. Closed the book and deleted it after reading “Jesus F*!”
Beware If this offends other readers too!

Unique and Exceptional
Revisado: 11-04-20
I absolutely loved this book! Not at the beginning though....it was hard to read about this girl’s disrespectful behavior in the “Rude Girls Club” she was a member of. But fortunately, I kept reading and it was so much more than I ever thought it would be, touching my heart for the lessons learned and experienced by her. Honestly, the true praise I want to give to this book is hard to put into words.
"The Far Journey" is a grand epic of love and tragedy, loyalty and betrayal, peril and survival. Through a mysterious time warp, 16 year old, very rude, but very pretty, Paula Masters of the 21st century, is transported back to the middle of the 19th century, on an Oregon Trail trek as Libby Quarles, plain, with a broken arm and a couple of missing fingers. Not realizing where she is or how she got there, she initially believes that this is some sort of crazy elaborate lesson in discipline from her parents. It's not.
Paula (as Libby) is about to be tested in body and soul, and to survive, she must discover the strength and toughness inside her. She's about to embark on lessons that will impact her physically, mentally and emotionally for all time.
Extremely well written, often humorous, and the Audio Version is a wonderful treat to listen to.
I'm proclaiming this book in my Top favorites ❤ for 2020, and wholeheartedly recommend it to any one who likes Time-Travel, Historical Fiction, Woman's Fiction, YA genres.

Interesting Murder Account
Revisado: 11-03-20
Interesting account of a woman found slain, and raped in her bathtub found face down. More than 60 detectives were involved in trying to solve the case.
Lasting approximately 48 minutes, this is a short story Audio Version.
Narrator was very monotone - as if reading a newspaper account.
Not one of my favorites from Harold Schechter, but he definitely provides interesting facts of true-crime accounts

Murdered is the true story of the coldblooded killing of Sherri Rae Rasmussen, a 29 year old newlywed. Paul Christy's thrilling performance leaves the listener at the edge of his seat. Christy's voice reflects the journalistic and no-nonsense quality of Alexander's words. The narrative is detailed and thorough, without giving too much away too soon.

Interesting True-Crime Account
Revisado: 10-26-20
"Murdered", is the true story of the coldblooded killing of Sherri Rae Rasmussen, a 29 year old newlywed. Hard to review this one - what a shame it took 26 yrs to get justice for this woman and her family. The "System" definitely was lacking, as were those in authority at the time, but finally the truth prevails.
Being on audible, I like Paul Christy as a narrator (his voice is pleasant and easy to listen to), but the narration in this book was just average - not bad, not great... almost reminded me of a newscaster just recounting the news.
