Not very helpful
Revisado: 06-30-22
I would only recommend this book if you are already unschooling your kids and want some vindication.
If you have doubts about the traditional school system, and want to introduce child led learning to your kids at home, this book does not really offer any helpful advice.

Historia
On an unnamed island off an unnamed coast, objects are disappearing: first hats, then ribbons, birds, roses - until things become much more serious. Most of the island's inhabitants are oblivious to these changes, while those few imbued with the power to recall the lost objects live in fear of the draconian Memory Police, who are committed to ensuring that what has disappeared remains forgotten. When a young woman who is struggling to maintain her career as a novelist discovers that her editor is in danger from the Memory Police, she concocts a plan to hide him beneath her floorboards.

Murakami without the misogyny

This book provides all the surreal and thought provoking charm of a Murakami novel without the whiny male lead and toxic masculinity. Would recommend

Historia
We live in a world of seeds. From our morning toast to the cotton in our clothes, they are quite literally the stuff and staff of life, supporting diets, economies, and civilizations around the globe. Just as the search for nutmeg and the humble peppercorn drove the Age of Discovery, so did coffee beans help fuel the Enlightenment and cottonseed help spark the Industrial Revolution. And from the fall of Rome to the Arab Spring, the fate of nations continues to hinge on the seeds of a Middle Eastern grass known as wheat.

These are just some of the ideas that were conceived and developed during the Enlightenment, and which changed forever the intellectual landscape of the Western world.

Great overview with a couple concerns
Revisado: 04-11-17
This is a great overview of the history of the enlightenment focusing on 3-5 major themes of the movement and who/how/why they came to be. Phenomenal performance by the narrator. A little too granular at times... But still very informative.
That being said, I don't know if its an issue with the text, the performance or my download.... But I felt like some passages were repeated multiple times and felt a little redundant.

Revisado: 12-08-16
This is a wonderfully performed audiobook. The story is a little bloated in the 3rd act. But I still really enjoyed Dicken's writing and being transported into the time period of the French revolution

Great story but weird performance
Revisado: 08-10-16
The whole first act drags and drags, but the second half is fun.
One qualm.... voice actors change the part they play from chapter to chapter. so it can be a little weird and hard to get used to
