Historia
Just days after the United States decimated Hiroshima and Nagasaki with nuclear bombs, the Japanese surrendered unconditionally. But even before the surrender, the US government and military had begun a secret propaganda and information suppression campaign to hide the devastating nature of these experimental weapons. The cover-up intensified as Occupation forces closed the atomic cities to Allied reporters, preventing leaks about the horrific long-term effects of radiation that would kill thousands during the months after the blast.

Dark but important
Revisado: 03-20-24
I watched “The bomb and the Cold War” on Netflix. It features this author, so I looked up this book. It’s a dark honestly story about the US’s use of the bomb and how a journalist really opened the conversation to what really happened. We need to remember this as this threat is still with us.

Performance is fine, too bad the story isn’t
Revisado: 10-05-23
I wanted to be swept away by a witchy story. I know that meant some goofy story lines etc, but no matter how I tried, I just couldn’t do it with this story. An alchemy historian? Sorry. Try Fifth Sacred Thing if you want a story about witches with some depth.

Disturbingly haunting story.
Revisado: 01-28-23
Putting sex and the main character’s relationship to it at the center of this story, may lead people to think this book is just steamy. It is sexy, but also disturbing. It makes you question power and what we desire in sex. And leaves you uneasy.
The reader is slow. But increase the speed and it’s easier to listen to.

Intense story of love, grief and trauma
Revisado: 01-24-21
This book bravely takes on a devastating time, the genocide that took place in Rwanda. Like the holocaust, it is easier to not think about what we humans are capable of. By we need to remember, to remind ourselves what we say and what we do matters. With delicate story-crafting this book doesn’t avoid it, but allows you to see around the edges of a trauma that cannot be imagined, to the people who lived it, and then went on living after as best they could.

The year is 2048. Climate change and bio-warfare have ravaged much of the Earth, and societal meltdown has splintered the US into fragments. But out of the ruins, Northern California has built a thriving culture based on respect for the four sacred things: air, fire, water and earth.

Finally on audible!
Revisado: 09-05-16
I have loved this story for over a decade and was so happy, but a bit nervous when I heard it was coming out in an audible form. I was not disappointed. Maya Lilly (this cannot be her real name, but brilliant!) was amazing. You will be moved.
