Historia
This is a new audiobook version of the classic children's novel by Victorian writer George MacDonald. A boy called Diamond (named after his father's favourite horse!) is befriended by the North Wind who takes him on many adventures with her. The North Wind is kind to Diamond, but she can also be frightening; however everything she does always turns out for the best. This magical and enchanting story can be seen to represent God's will working through pain and death for greater good.

Missing most of chapter 3
Revisado: 10-30-21
This audio book is great, but most of chapter three is missing. There might be more chapters missing too, I haven’t listened to the whole book yet.

Historia
Among the most celebrated and beloved novels of 2021, Anthony Doerr’s gorgeous third novel is a triumph of imagination and compassion, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope—and a book. In Cloud Cuckoo Land, Doerr has created a magnificent tapestry of times and places that reflects our vast interconnectedness—with other species, with each other, with those who lived before us, and with those who will be here after we’re gone.

Loved the book, not the narrator
Revisado: 10-02-21
I loved this book, and will listen to it many more times. It was worth the purchase price and then some. The only thing I didn't like was the narrator. I just didn't think she fit the story very well.

Historia
Victor Hugo's tale of injustice, heroism and love follows the fortunes of Jean Valjean, an escaped convict determined to put his criminal past behind him. But his attempts to become a respected member of the community are constantly put under threat: by his own conscience and by the relentless investigations of the dogged Policeman, Javert. It is not simply for himself that Valjean must stay free, however, for he has sworn to protect the baby daughter of Fantine, driven to prostitution by poverty.

Multiple narrators, and volume issues

I love this story and have listened to multiple versions and translations. This one is my least favorite. The multiple narrators are jarring, and the audio keeps jumping from low to high volume.

It doesn't get any better than this!
Revisado: 08-06-18
I was thrilled to find this recording by Stephen Fry, since I love both Holmes and Fry. It was well worth the credit that I spent for it: over 60 hours of listening pleasure. Fry's forewords to each of the novels and story collections are a nice addition. I just wish this collection included The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes as well. Fry's performance is excellent- his range of voices is astounding. Highly recommended.

Historia
The Pickwick Papers was Dickens's first novel. Retired businessman and confirmed bachelor, Mr Samuel Pickwick esquire, embarks on a journey through the English countryside accompanied by three fellow "Pickwickians", Mr. Tupman, Mr. Snodgrass and Mr. Winkle. It is a joy to hear of their misadventures in search of stories and characters of interest and the repeated efforts of the quick-witted Sam Weller (Mr. Pickwicks manservant) to rescue them all from disaster.

Wonderful Performance!
Revisado: 03-05-15
I've tried listening to The Pickwick Papers read by two different narrators and couldn't stand either of them, so I was thrilled to discover Tadhg Hynes's narration. All of his audiobooks are wonderful, and this one is no different. Tadhg's lively expression is perfect for Dickens' works. An absolute pleasure to listen to! I don't remember the last time I've laughed so much while listening to a book!

Historia
A Christmas Carol has never been out of print since it was first published in 1843, and no wonder! This ghostly little book creates the feeling of Christmas that we still enjoy today. Marley was dead... and so too was Christmas to Scrooge. Haunted by three spirits on Christmas eve the old miser is taken on a journey to his past, his present and his future. With such memorable characters as Tiny Tim and Bob Cratchit it will warm your heart with favorite memories, and remind you how the true Christmas spirit comes from giving with love.

Historia
Great Expectations is Charles Dickens' penultimate novel. Collected and dense, with a conciseness unusual for him, the novel represents Dickens' peak and maturity as an author. Great Expectations was written, according to G. K. Chesterton, in "the afternoon of his life and glory". Great Expectations is a coming-of-age novel. Narrated in the first person, it depicts the growth and personal development of an orphan named Pip.

My Favorite Recording of Great Expectations!
Revisado: 04-09-13
Would you consider the audio edition of Great Expectations to be better than the print version?
My favorite way to enjoy Dickens' works is to listen to them. The only way Great Expectations could get any better than this recording, is if I could hear Dickens himself reading it (and even then, it would depend on Dickens' voice!).
Who was your favorite character and why?
Joe will always be my favorite. He's so loving and good-hearted.
Have you listened to any of Tadhg Hynes’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Tadhg's performances are always superb, and this one was right up there with the others. It's wonderful to hear his love for the books that he reads.
Any additional comments?
If you're considering buying this recording, go for it! I've listened to more than one other recording of Great Expectations (including one previously purchased from Audible), and this one is far and away the best.
