Historia
Meet Jane. Newly arrived to Birmingham, Alabama, Jane is a broke dog-walker in Thornfield Estates—a gated community full of McMansions, shiny SUVs, and bored housewives. The kind of place where no one will notice if Jane lifts the discarded tchotchkes and jewelry off the side tables of her well-heeled clients. Where no one will think to ask if Jane is her real name. But her luck changes when she meets Eddie Rochester. Recently widowed, Eddie is Thornfield Estates’ most mysterious resident.

Intriguing!
Revisado: 09-26-22
I loved this book! I kept wondering what the connection might be between Bea and Jane. What a twist at the end! My only critic is that Audible needs to make sure that the chapter announcements line up with the ACTUAL chapters that are on our screens. At one point, it was 5 chapters behind! 😲 Some who have written reviews have criticized Jane's character, saying she's full of hate. Well, YOU try surviving through the foster system in this country, and see how YOU fare! As far as the swearing, I have a truck driver boyfriend, so I'm rather used to that. It adds to the angst the characters feel. Suspenseful, intriguing, interesting!

Historia
Liesl Bannon has never felt like she was truly at home anywhere, not since her mother placed her and her brother Erich on the last Kindertransport out of Berlin in 1939. She’d been so much more fortunate than most Jews, saved from the horrors of the Nazi regime. Being adopted by Elizabeth and Daniel Lieber meant she and Erich spent the war in Northern Ireland, safe and loved, but Liesl always knew something was missing. When an opportunity to return to Berlin to represent her university presents itself, she is so torn.

Captivating and Well-written!
Revisado: 07-20-21
I thoroughly enjoyed this third book in the story of Erich and Liesl Bannon, and I look forward to reading Book #4, "World Starts Anew", the continuation of the story of Erich and Leisl into adulthood! As far as the story itself, Jean Grainger truly brings everything full circle, and captivates you with just the right amounts of drama, suspense, and romance.

Historia
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

Historia
Berlin, 1944. Ariella Bannon is being hunted. Someone is determined to betray her as a Jew, but she has survived against incredible odds, and the end is in sight. She will be reunited with her precious children, no matter what it takes. Meanwhile, Liesl and Erich have found a home in Ireland, away from the chaos of war-ravaged Europe. As the dark news of what has happened to the Jews filters through, they are torn - love for their mother and their home on one hand, and the profound sense of peace and belonging they have in Ballycreggan, on the other.

Wonderful historical fiction!
Revisado: 06-14-20
Being an Irish-Slovakian Jew, I LOVED this story! I am in my early fifties, and I grew up hearing stories about the war, and the atrocities of the Holocaust from my grandparents. The historical facts in this book are correct, and the story is riveting. The narrator really makes the characters come to life! Jean, you should consider making this a trilogy!

Historia
Snuggle under warm blankets as you listen to the sound of coniferous tree branches creaking in the wind, while the crackle of frozen wet snow creates a humming winter nightscape. Unlike canned nature sounds created in a studio, renowned acoustic ecologist Gordon Hempton gives you the real deal. He travels the world recording remarkable locations that capture the essence of the place itself.

Great night's sleep!!

I have listened to this 3 times now, as I'm falling asleep each night. It's VERY relaxing, as there are no unnatural sounds. I was asleep within 3-5 minutes each time!!
