Historia
How an Economy Grows and Why it Crashes uses illustration, humor, and accessible storytelling to explain complex topics of economic growth and monetary systems. In it, economic expert and bestselling author of Crash Proof, Peter Schiff teams up with his brother Andrew to apply their signature "take no prisoners" logic to expose the glaring fallacies that have become so ingrained in our country's economic conversation.

Awesome and easy to follow
Revisado: 09-26-11
My 9 year old son started listening to this with me. He said "Dad so the fish is money?" and then put his book down and listened on our 2 hour road trip. I love it when a book can be both educational and fun and the topic be something important and usually dry like economics. Thank you for the excellent book.

Historia
When President Roosevelt took the oath of office in March 1933, he was facing a devastated nation. Four years into the Great Depression, a staggering 13 million American workers were jobless and many millions more of their family members were equally in need. Desperation ruled the land. In 1935, after a variety of temporary relief measures, a permanent nationwide jobs program was created.

An Excellent book whose timing is important
Revisado: 07-27-08
My main take away from this book is how the unemployed during the depression wanted to work. How FDR thought just giving money was taking something away from peoples pride and that it would cause long term bad effects. Wow was he correct on that. Wish politicians would read up on him to understand that to give money is not the idea, give a job and build the persons character and pride.
Excellent book with a lot of history that isnt taught. Great narrator also.

Historia
Smallpox, the only infectious disease to have been eradicated, was one of the most terrifying of human scourges. It covered the skin with hideous, painful boils, killed a third of its victims, and left the survivors disfigured for life. In this riveting, often terrifying look at the history of smallpox, Jonathan B. Tucker tells the story of this deadly disease, the heroic efforts to eradicate it worldwide, and the looming dangers it still poses today.

Well written and read. Can get a little technical but I learned quite a bit from this book. This story is important in understanding more of the ease of spread of current diseases and the near impossible fight against them. Great work...

The problem with Democrats, Carville and Begala argue, is not ideological. It's anatomical. They lack a backbone. Take It Back is a spinal transplant for Democrats and an audacious battle plan for victory.

Awesome and very important for all to read!!!
Revisado: 02-25-06
This is important for all to read to get a good idea of what is going on in politics and with OUR Politicians. Not just a democrat view but a centrist view. If centrist are a majority then why do we let the extremist run our country into the ground??? Why do we let the extremist tear our country into two warring factions, ridiculous...
If the Democrats would do what these guys suggest they would win me over but I must say I am skeptical that would happen. Buy it Read it and then discuss it with friends. Lets get this country back to its greatness.

Historia
John Crawford joined the Florida National Guard to pay for his college tuition; it had seemed a small sacrifice to give up one weekend a month and two weeks a year in exchange for a free education. But one semester short of graduating, and newly married, he was called to active duty, to serve in Kuwait, then on the front lines of the invasion of Iraq, and ultimately in Baghdad. While serving in Iraq, Crawford began writing short nonfiction stories, his account of what he and his fellow soldiers experienced.

Great book on a not so happy topic
Revisado: 10-20-05
I thought this book was great. I have not been there and cant vouch for the facts but I did read a lot of reviews from guys that had been there that agreed with him. Not a feel good book but then WAR isn't a feel good subject. It would be interesting for a non partisan Iraqi version of the War. Kind of get the other guy version, not the insurgents but just regular Iraqis feelings of our troops at the level this author describes his feelings towards them.

Revisado: 07-27-05
Well, very well, researched and realistic. I think it shows how a very small event can have such ernormous effect on history. I do not think that there is anything that is out of the realm in this book. Do yourself a favor and listen to this whole series...

Entertaining, maybe far fetched but it is Fiction?
Revisado: 04-09-05
I enjoyed the book immensely. There are always two sides to a story and usually there is not a clear wholly correct side. But who cares about whether he is right or wrong on his Environmental premise the book was good. I think it keeps you wondering what else is going to happen and how the characters are going to survive. What else could you want from Fiction. Very entertaining.
As far as the main character just being a normal joe, that is Michael Crichton's theme. Normal joe's being in unnormal situations. But again, it is fiction so critiquing it's statements seems a little unfair to me.

Historia
In his million-copy best seller Guns, Germs, and Steel, Jared Diamond examined how and why Western civilizations developed the technologies and immunities that allowed them to dominate much of the world. Now in this brilliant companion volume, Diamond probes the other side of the equation: what caused some of the great civilizations of the past to collapse into ruin, and what can we learn from their fates?

He does it again!!!
Revisado: 04-09-05
Every American should read this book. I think it could spark great debate, no matter which side of the issue you are on. That is what this country needs, good old fashioned debate on what we want our country to stand for, where we should head and how to get there. This is not a political book but a survival guide for future minded civilizations and societies.
If you want to pick up or listen to a book that says everything is rosy, fiction, then this might not be your book. If you want a great research book on why societies have not lasted and what might be some of the lessons, this is definitely your book. "Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it", this at a time when the schools are getting rid of history classes to make the grade in other subjects.
Guns, Germs and Steel is his previous book and is an awesome read also.
