Historia
His second major venture into nonfiction (after Death in the Afternoon, 1932), Green Hills of Africa is Ernest Hemingway's lyrical journal of a month on safari in the great game country of East Africa, where he and his wife, Pauline, journeyed in December of 1933. Hemingway's well-known interest in - and fascination with - big-game hunting is magnificently captured in this evocative account of his trip.

Another great Hemingway
Revisado: 11-08-21
Great listen, especially after reading some of Hemingway’s other novels. Lots of parallels between them. Great narrator, very good book.

Historia
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

Hemingway's Last True Masterpiece
Revisado: 06-10-21
Literary scholars and fisherman read/ listen to this book alike; with open eyes and vivid images of giant Marlin fish in their heads. Hemingway wrote this novel in the years just before taking his own life, I began to think if the 'Old Man' was Hemingway, and the struggle with the fish was himself trying to prove that he could write. Parallels in the book lead me back to Christ and the act of crucifixion, blood dripping as to attract a curious and hungry shark. One starts to wonder many things in this novel, and at the time Hemingway shunned the readers of this novel because of their ambitious thoughts about the symbolism of Santiago, or the Marlin, or even the lions on the beach. Of course Hemingway reluctantly put them in their place saying that the old man was just an old man, the fish was just a fish. After listening to this novel I can understand why this was Hemingway's last true masterpiece; vivid narration, long thoughtful, yet restrained sentences, and short in length compared to the longer pieces such as THE SUN ALSO RISES his novel on the blood and beauty of his trip to Pamplona to watch bull fights, or A FAREWELL TO ARMS his novel on the Italian Front. THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA is restrained, and short, like an epitaph chiseled into literary history. Deep enough to win a Nobel Prize for Literature, and kill the man as well.

Inspiring, even in 2020
Revisado: 09-30-20
Martha has always been a mentor, her advice, story, and products inspire me every single day. My life goal is to meet Martha. This book is inspiring, even in 2020. Successful businesses are what hold up the United States, without these we start to fall. Capitalism and the strive for quality and excellence is what makes America great. Hopefully we can keep America great. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with a business or that is ambitious.
