Historia
John Pavlovitz examines the bedrock ideas of our religion: the existence of hell, the utility of prayer, the way we treat LGBTQ people, the value of anger, and other doctrines to help all of us take a good, honest look at how the beliefs we hold can shape our relationships with God and our fellow humans - and to make sure that love has the last, loudest word.

Advice for the world we live in
Revisado: 01-25-24
I very much enjoyed John Pavlovitz’s discussion of how to be a better person in today’s world. He speaks of the world that I walk in, full of pain and anger. These insights help me to see that I don’t have to agree with everyone, I just have to try to listen to their stories. Even when I want to scream (especially then). I might hear God speaking when I least expect it.

Cute story
Revisado: 04-07-22
A very cute cozy mystery. However, I think this narrator might be a better fit for children’s stories. It was hard to feel any sense of suspense listening to them.

Great story made better by Tim Curry!
Revisado: 03-17-22
This is a worthy addition to the series, with the unfortunate Baudelaire children showing their usual bravery in the face of horrendous twists and turns. Having Tim Curry narrate the story makes it irresistible.

Historia
Well hello to you dear audiobook browser. Now I have your attention it would be rude if I didn't tell you a little about my literary feast. So, here is the thing: is it just me or does anyone else find that adulthood offers no refuge from the unexpected horrors, peculiar lack of physical coordination and sometimes unexplained nudity, that accompanied childhood and adolescence? I am proud to say I have a wealth of awkward experiences - from school days to life as an office temp - and here I offer my 18-year-old self (and I hope you, too, dear listener) some much needed caution and guidance on how to navigate life's rocky path.

Historia
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.

An intelligent and well-researched look at how much of American society has been formed by slavery. I understand some people disagree with the conclusions, but to me, they resonate, and I’m white. Listen and see for yourself.

Fascinating look at an everyday activity
Revisado: 07-29-21
Only one of the talents behind Horrible Histories and the host of the podcast “You’re Dead to Me” can make the history of sitting this engaging. I never realized how much we say by the way we sit. Greg Jenner offers an in-depth look at how much - through the development of the high chair, the sex chair or the electric chair, just to name a few - the evolution of sitting says about us as a society.

Fascinating perspectives on bodies, what they can do, what they suffer and ultimately what they mean to us. The different participants, especially Ms. Lawley herself, reveal messy, authentic relationships with their bodies and the perfect body image assaulting all of us. Loved it.
