Can someone please just tell me how this ends?!
Revisado: 10-16-18
Apologies to fans of the books, but I'm done. I've spent hundreds of hours listening to ten books of this series. It began well, and was quite interesting. It had an creative story and well- developed characters that really held my attention. Sadly, that was about five books ago. Since then it's been filled with tangential story lines of secondary and tertiary characters that I simply could not care less about. I began skipping entire chapters that were read by Kate Reading- not because of her performance, but because I finally noticed how poorly the women are written. It seems the author, aside from apparently being paid by the number of lesser character backstories, writes female characters as either damsels pining for absent love, controlling shrews who struggle to reign in their emotions, or manipulative immoral schemers. All of whom seem designed to deliberately torture their men.
And honestly, the entire story could be whittled down. I'm hearing the same conversations repeated; the same arguments brought up and ignored. Plot points come and go with no progress towards a resolution of this story.
I just want to know what happens to the original group from Two Rivers, and maybe Loyal, and that's it! Unless I find some spoilers online, I may never know, because I won't spend another dime on this unraveled and tortuous tale.
IMHO, The Wheel of Time would have made an excellent five-book series, rather than this mediocre meandering, directionless, and frankly, indulgent, neverending story.

Previous performances were better
Revisado: 05-11-18
What's up with Elaine's accent? It sounds like some genius decided that a bad English accent sounds more regal. It's very off-putting and pulls you out of the story.

Better than I expected
Revisado: 07-20-16
This review is for the entire trilogy.
I didn't expect much. It sounded like another teen angsty dystopic story. But the character development was pretty good, once you get past some idiosyncrasies. And the bonds that grew between the characters were well-crafted and touching. While some plot points and character actions were a bit far-fetched, it was entertaining and not too predictable. There was quite a bit of war craft, which I enjoyed. And the first- person narration really helped put the listener in the moment, and I found the characters' plights very moving.
Speaking of narration, it was an excellent performance, with well-differentiated voices and characterizations, and lots of emotion and intensity.
For those who like good futuristic sci fi, you should be able to see past the Divergent/ Hunger Games/ Enders Game parallels, to a very well-written story. I highly recommend it.

interesting concept
Revisado: 08-21-15
The concept behind this book was interesting. But I found the story's characters to be flat. The characters seemed to fall into common archetypes, and this is worsened by the narration. Mr Lee does very well with English accent variations (at least to my untrained ear), but his American accents are abysmal. Driving me well beyond the point of distraction, I had to stop listening several times. Then I had to steel myself, bracing for the impending onslaught of his "Southern US female" before I could return to the story.
I'm a great fan of the work of Arthur C. Clarke, but this story felt a bit directionless, with a plodding plot, and left far too many questions unanswered for me to recommend it. I know it is part of a series, but it feels incomplete as a separate book, and likely should have been combined with the next book.

Dragged on...
Revisado: 05-27-15
It was acceptable, but toward the end I lost interest. By the time they trying to thwart an international incident, I was only hanging on to see whodunit. And the denouement dragged on so that I was literally listening with one ear, having other conversations, and waiting did the credits to roll.
