Could Not Get Past Chapter 2
Revisado: 09-04-24
I tried. I really did. But I did not like this book. The narration was awful. Why on earth was the apothecary telling her life story to this 12 year old girl she met 5 minutes ago? It’s too much. I don’t normally give up on books because in my heart I’m just sure I’ll hurt the author’s feelings. In this case, I’m okay with it.

Historia
Ff we spend our lives trying to be “the strong one,” we become exhausted, burned-out, and disconnected from our truest selves. What if it were different? Could there be a different way to be strong? Could strength mean more than pushing on and pushing through pain, bearing every heavy burden on our own? What if, instead, true strength were more like the tide: soft and bold, fierce and gentle, moving together as one powerful force? In Strong like Water, author and trauma therapist Aundi Kolber offers a framework for true flourishing.

I really enjoy the series and even preordered the last 2 books. This title wasn’t my favorite, it was just okay.
The sound quality could also use some improvement.

Liked it less as it went on
Revisado: 06-18-23
I was interested by the plot and characters at the beginning. Character development was there, but about 2/3 of the way through I became exasperated with the main character and her choices. Towards the end I was just trying to be done.

Historia
I was so excited when Darcy announced out of the blue that we were flying to Kenya for our extended honeymoon. Now that we are here, I suspect he has actually been sent to fulfill another secret mission. I am trying very hard not to pick a fight about it, because after all, we are in paradise! Darcy finally confides that there have been robberies in London and Paris. It seems the thief was a member of the aristocracy and may have fled to Kenya. Since we are staying in the Happy Valley, we are well positioned to hunt for clues and ferret out possible suspects.

I’m all done.
Revisado: 01-19-23
I have enjoyed this series up until the previous book and now this one has made me decide that I’m done with the series.
The mysteries are not mysterious and feel like no effort was put into them. Half-hearted writing.
Georgie was a very naive young lady in the beginning, but she’s been places and seen more of the world since then. I appreciate her innocence, but I don’t see her character as having grown up much.
Also, why is she becoming less and less observant and intelligent??? This is incredibly frustrating!
Lastly, I’m tired of hearing her inner turmoil about if Darcy is faithful to her. My word, woman! And she is terrible to Queenie, and is so unkind to her in word and deed. Queenie was definitely a mess at first, and she still had a few issues in the last book, but she has improved so much since then. AND she saved your life in the last book, but never mind that because she forgot a shoe and that is unforgivable.
Yeah, I’m all done. The first 10 books were fun, but I won’t be buying more.

Historia
Georgie, or Lady Georgiana Rannoch, is busy planning her upcoming nuptials to Darcy O'Mara. Unfortunately, what has started as a simple wedding has become quite a royal headache and grand affair, thanks to a guest list that includes the queen and the appointment of princesses as Georgie's bridesmaids. “If only Darcy and I had eloped!” she thinks, as she attempts to organize her wedding and find a place for her and her husband-to-be to live. Just as she despairs of ever finding a home, her godfather offers his fully staffed country estate. But something sinister is afoot....

Disappointing story
Revisado: 01-08-23
New narrator had a challenge on her hands trying to take over the series, but I thought she performed admirably and will only improve.
Georgie’s character really frustrated me. She’s always been a bit naive, but in this book she was just clueless and dumb. I found myself rolling my eyes often.
The plot was basic and took no imagination to figure out what was going on.
I hope the next book is better.

Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Ugh. Hard pass.
Revisado: 09-23-22
This book would have been vastly improved by a better editor who would have reduced it by 1/3.
There are so many characters with backstories and side stories, that I couldn’t find myself caring about any of them. This book is called “The INNKEEPER of Ivy Hill”, so what does Rachel’s story (or so many of them) have anything to do with it? I’m at a loss. Feel free to introduce a few minor characters, but I don’t need to know their whole life story. It does nothing to further the book. It makes it convoluted and the book trudged along so slowly.
Also, a better editor would have noticed lines and whole phrases taken from Jane Austen’s works.
The narrator sounded almost as bored as I felt.
In all, a very disappointing book.

Historia
Charlotte Collins, nee Lucas, is the respectable wife of Hunsford’s vicar, and sees to her duties by rote: keeping house, caring for their adorable daughter, visiting parishioners, and patiently tolerating the lectures of her awkward husband and his condescending patroness, Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Intelligent, pragmatic, and anxious to escape the shame of spinsterhood, Charlotte chose this life, an inevitable one so socially acceptable that its quietness threatens to overwhelm her. Then she makes the acquaintance of Mr. Travis, a local farmer and tenant of Lady Catherine.
