A nice surprise
Revisado: 10-15-24
I picked up this series with the thought it sounded interesting but without a lot of expectation - it was delightful! The characters are so much fun and I love the setting. Hayley - the main character - is relatable. The author does a nice job of character development - after three books they feel like old friends. The narration was good to very good - there were some mispronounced words that I found a bit distracting but in all the narration matches the characters. I'm looking forward to Hayley's next adventures!

Historia
The people in Frankie Morgan’s life say she’s angry. Emotionally stunted. Combative. But really, who can blame her? It’s hard being nice when your clients are insufferable, your next-door neighbor is a miserable woman and the cowardly driver who killed your mother is still out living it up somewhere. Somehow, though, she finds herself at her very first anger-management group session—drinking terrible coffee and learning all about how “forgiveness is a process.” One that starts with a list.

Slow Start but I'm really glad I stuck with it
Revisado: 06-30-23
It was really hard to like Frankie, the main character initially. She's very flawed and super angry. I considered bailing but stayed with it and I'm glad I did. Lots of good twists and turns - I truly had no idea until the end whodunnit. The narrator also did a good job. And I enjoyed the setting in Portland ME, an area I know. I hope we'll be able to see more of Frankie!

I was on the edge of my seat until the end
Revisado: 02-03-22
I usually don't read or listen to spy-type novels but I love the author so gave this series a try and I'm so glad I did. The characters are so vivid and the narrator is fantastic - one of the best I've listened to (and I've listened to a LOT of books). (im)patiently waiting for book 3 in a couple of weeks.

Historia
A murdered guest at her first catering event? Definitely not good for DeeDee’s fledgling business. So much for post-divorce new beginnings. When Lisa, a well-known Seattle art gallery owner, is murdered at the event, shock waves ripple through the local Seattle art community. The following day, newspaper reports indicate the cause of death might have been poison in the food DeeDee served. She has to find the killer to save her business and her new life.

cute story
Revisado: 02-03-22
The story was cute although the end was easily guessed. The narrator was awful, sad to say. It definitely wasn't worth the price paid for a book that's less than 4 hours. I probably won't pick up the rest of the series.

I really wanted to like this book. But really struggled to finish it.. Too many characters way too confusing and the main character was so unlikable. The ending seemed rushed.

Historia
In the summers of the early 1970s, Morris Ardoin and his siblings helped run their family's roadside motel in a hot, buggy, bayou town in Cajun Louisiana. The stifling, sticky heat inspired them to find creative ways to stay cool and out of trouble. When they were not doing their chores — handling a colorful cast of customers, scrubbing motel-room toilets, plucking chicken bones and used condoms from under the beds — they played canasta, an old ladies’ game that provided them with a refuge from the sun and helped them avoid their violent, troubled father.

I love this book! Funny, poignant, heartbreaking
Revisado: 09-16-20
I enjoyed getting to know Morris and his many siblings and his extended family and of course, the Stone Motel. I loved Morris' reading of the book and how he captured his relatives' patois. Everytime he'd say, in his dad's voice, "towels, soap, etc." it made me laugh. The book was sweet and humorous but at the same time, there were some very dark sections. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
Emerson just made her dream come true as a professional cheerleader for her favorite pro football team. But even though the plus-size athlete is breaking down boundaries, she still has to contend with the massive rulebook. Carbs? Nope. Chocolate? Definitely not. Still, Emerson loves her curves, and she'll rock the hell out of this job even if it kills her. Except for one mandate that is easier read than done... No fraternizing with the players.

Very predictable. Also very sexist in terms of male/female roles. The trophy was offensive as were many other parts of this book. I wish I hadn't bothered.
