Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

This Book Was Made for Audio!
Revisado: 05-04-25
In all my audiobook listening, I've never found a more perfect book for audio. The way Rocky talks was adapted perfectly. I'd argue that the superior way of reading this book is through the audiobook. There's just no better way to experience it.

Historia
Ten years have passed, but neither Primrose nor her sisters, Poppy and Posy, can shake the belladonna-soaked trauma of their childhood. Though the triplets have grown and are no longer captive, the memory of Black Annis’s iron talons and needle teeth still linger. While Posy finds reprieve in studying with the Elder Mother and Poppy drowns her mental wounds in song and service, Primrose copes by traveling wherever the wind takes her. Much like her beloved half-brother Rush used to, she finds solace in seeking new havens.

Perfect Blend of Whimsical & Spooky

This story is so wonderful. Story-wise, I love the mental health rep of depression, anxiety, and PTSD. The sisters journey allows them to get to know each other even more closely and truly learn each other's vulnerabilities. The narration is fabulous. Jessica did an excellent job of giving each of the triplets their own distinct voice. Very well done!

The Perfect Sci-Fi Narration!
Revisado: 05-04-25
I've read this book once before, but this was a reread to experience the audio and Brogan DELIVERED. Every sound matched what I expected and her range of character voices is phenomenal. I will absolutely listen to this again!

Historia
Eighteen-year-old Sparrow can’t remember a time when she wasn’t. And neither can her mother—or the trolls, imps, gnomes, and faeries who all live in the Glade and call it home. Though Sparrow’s weak heart keeps her wheelchair bound, she and her mother have dedicated their lives to protecting the Glade, especially from the worst bogeyman of them all: the skin-stealing, poison-ingesting witch called Black Annis.

Magic and Whimsy

I really loved this folklore-inspired adventure. The narration felt perfect for the story. The characters were really enjoyable and relatable with a villian that was truly evil and terrifying.

An Enjoyable Read
Revisado: 12-20-23
Content:
I enjoyed this one! Not quite as much as Elf King or Vampire Lord, but I'd say it sits solidly at my #3 preference for this series.
Yes, each book can be read independently from the rest, but they all include some minor references to the others since they all occur in the same world.
Victoria and Ilryth are likable and relatable. Victoria struggles to see her value and worth after a failed marriage. The burn was a bit slower than I like a slow burn to be, but the pace makes sense for this story.
This does have a type of happily ever after, though not in the traditional sense.
I need to reread the other 3 because I need to refresh my memory on the timeline of how this fits into the bigger picture story. Specifically as it relates to Katria in Fae Prince.
SLIGHT SPOILER - If you're drawn to this book specifically for the spice, be advised that it's not supernatural spice (in my opinion). I don't read a lot of spice so I have nothing to compare it to, but for the sex scenes, Ilryth takes Victoria on land and transforms into a full human... so the spice is just human spice. Personally, I'm not bothered by that but one of the hooks I saw during this book's advertising was "Siren spice" so I'd have expected some kind of creativity given his anatomy.
Audiobook Performance:
Elizabeth Evans is a wonderful narrator. Although since each book in this series features a different main character, I'd like to see some variety in narrators. It might also just be a personal thing, but the way Elizabeth pronounces Faerie (fay-ree) is so off-putting.

Like a car alarm, bagpipe music, or a doorbell ringing in the middle of the night, hearing this all-new audio edition of The Bad Beginning will only upset you. This unique multi-voice recording brings the first book in Lemony Snicket's alarming A Series of Unfortunate Events to such terrible life that no one should really have to experience it.

too many narrators almost ruined a good story
Revisado: 07-25-21
Wylan's narrator enunciated everything way too much. Like someone reading a storybook to kindergarteners.
The different narrators for each character makes the narration inconsistent. Pronunciation of names and terms invented by the author (such as kruge) change multiple times and it makes it hard to follow.
Depending on the narrator, Jesper has an American, a Cajun, or a British accent.
it was just terribly inconsistent and made it very hard to follow.

Great Story... Too many narrators
Revisado: 07-07-21
This story was fantastic! I loved the surprising twists and reveals. but what almost ruined it for me was having seven narrators. Each character POV had a different narrator for their chapters. Now I'm a fan of full cast audio when it's done correctly. Having different narrators for the dialogue each character speaks with a central narrator for the non-spoken lines. But having a different person narrate each character's chapters made it hard to follow, especially since each narrator tries to tailor their voice differently when various characters are speaking. Overall, I enjoyed the story but I could have done with just Lauren Fortgang narrating, as she did for the Shadow and Bone books.
