Overall, I really enjoyed this lesson. I was able to pull out significant historical events and put them into historical context. It was more detailed than I expected and took awhile to get through. The narration was good.

The life truths presented in beautiful prose.

If I could give the performance a 6, I would. It transported me to the streets of Bombay. The writing is beautiful, inspiring, and at times depressing…just like life. When I downloaded this 40+ hour behemoth, I was a bit overwhelmed, but I couldn’t stop listening to it! I miss the characters already!

Very Interesting...Maybe Too Detailed

This book is fascinating and enchanting. I will likely buy in hard copy. As an audio book however, it is almost too detailed. The names, dates, and places are meticulously documented, but difficult to keep track of or follow in an audio format. The performance is commendable though and I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed the listen. It’s definitely time to slow down. This book was pretty convicting in a really entertaining way. Should we move to Portland?

Anyway, I buy it. It’s going to be hard, but this isn’t resolution type stuff. Many of these recommendations SHOULD be pretty easy to implement. I’ll admit my phone is my alarm clock so I sleep next to it, but I’m on information detox for this weekend at least...well it’s a start.

Difficult as an Audio book.

I think this book would have much more impact in written form. It was a hard listen. I found myself drifting off and not following it completely. There are amazing life lessons, but sometimes they are lost amidst the lost of names in audio form.

I wanted more about the stars

This book was a political statement more than a book about the specifics of the stars. I appreciated the history provided but was expecting more specifics on all the entities in the Cosmos than what was provided. Lavar Burton does a fantastic job as the reader!

I like this idea!

This is a great way to look at the importance of individuality and purpose. I enjoyed the ties with the Declaration of Independence and the pursuit of happiness. Control of populations is changing and governments need to implement a more individually tailored approach to match emerging media and knowledge emerging as part of the Information Age. The social contract discussed here is likely a good starting place.

Disappointing

I was disappointed in this book overall. There are some great takeaways on the role of mind and self, but they get a little lost in the axe grinding against materialism. I thought there would be way more time dedicated to the authors study of RSME’s, but that is relegated to a small part of Chapter 9. I kept waiting for his science, unfortunately it didn’t satisfy.
