Putting the pieces together.
Revisado: 10-01-19
This was a good book to put the pieces together from the last two books and make more sense of the main characters. The story was very good BUT I am really getting tired of the "F" bombs. I listen in the car and at work so I cannot play this book due to the language that is completely unnecessary in the context of the story.

What? WAIT? No way!!
Revisado: 10-01-19
Get comfy, this story takes so many twists and turns, so many near death experiences and peril that you really NEED to binge listen to this book in order to really get the flow and urgentness of the story flow.
Sam and Tom embark on an impossible journey to find a dirigible that has been lost since right before WWII. Diving, flying, the impossible come true!
To say anything specific will spoil some portion of the plot so you really need to listen to this book and get the whole story yourself. I will say this, the story starts with lots of gold and a secret that could end humankind!!!

Funny, light book, no real surprises (sad) and a lot of pooches! If you like tall, sexy redheads, this is your book! Don';t expect any character development though, its a fun ride but no real depth.

Glowing green from ear to ear!
Revisado: 08-20-19
"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."
Christopher Cartwright once again, knocked it out of the ballpark! This time, he takes you on a journey through Washington's corruption, death of a child, an evil green, single cell organism (or is it?) and the death of an old friend plus some surprising sexy content with a twist!
Underwater close encounters, near death cliff hangers and unreal escapes abound in this tale. Want more Master builder content? Yupper, its in there as well.
Are there some over the top fantastic scenarios played out? Yes but they are forgivable as long as you are enamored with the super macho Sam Reily.
I do have one complaint, I would have liked to seen the development of the cyber-geek's character, I wont spoil it but you are going to 'have to' listen to this one, no buts about it!
One last word; the Tri-hull boat is a kick in the pants!!!

Historia
On the 18th of February, 1812, the Emily Rose became shipwrecked on the southern coast of Australia. The survivors are forced to walk nearly 1,000 miles through the unexplored land to reach the only settlement, Sydney Cove. Nearly 200 miles inland, they come across the remains of a monstrous ship, far bigger than anything the British Navy had ever constructed. Through basic communication achieved with the natives, they learned that the ship had been there for a very long time...Maybe 1,000 years?

Sam's the man!
Revisado: 08-20-19
"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."
I was simply looking for an audio-book to fill time for my trip to Wyoming and back but was unable to find a mystery that wasn't filled with sex and lewd behavior. I got an email that had this book in it so I just had to look. Being a free copy, I had to take a peek and then downloaded it.
Overall, Christopher Cartwright did a great job writing this book, the flow was nice without any major plot or detail failures to distract from the story line. There was one place where Christopher Cartwright mentioned the bad guys had AK-47's then switched to UZI's then back to AK-47's, as an aficionado, that irritated me but was forgivable.
The theme of the "Master Builders" running throughout all of Christopher's books is very subtle, I wish he would pull more it this string or abandon it, that is the only choppy part of the series I don't care for. I do not find it to be a tease but an irritation to have it dangled in front of me and just get small chips served without any real explanation.
Well, that was the critical part, lets get on to the good stuff!
David Gilmore changed the narration just enough to let you know which character he was narrating and while he did the nearly same voice for everybody but Sam and Billy, it left you with a good sense of person.
The story followed a few different threads, one with Sam's dad that was completely fanciful but fun, one with Billy that was a little sexy without being over the top. Overall, the read flowed well, the story was solid and the fantasy mixed with mystery was adequate for a nice long drive.
I would get deeper into the story but you will want to hear this one for yourself, excuse me while I go back and purchase book 1, I want all the back story!

She paints, she draws, she gets crushes on boys - until one night when Soviet officers barge into her home, tearing her family from the comfortable life they've known. Separated from her father, forced onto a crowded and dirty train car, Lina, her mother, and her young brother slowly make their way north, crossing the Arctic Circle, to a work camp in the coldest reaches of Siberia.

Sadness and Turmoil.

I guess I am not able to do sad books like this, tears at work are not a good thing and I almost had to leave for the day because this story was so heart wrenching. I guess if I needed a good cry, the first few chapters would be perfect!

Road trip nail biter!
Revisado: 07-30-19
This was my very first audiobook ever, yes, I tried a few but the narration was always poor or the book was slow, you get the point, just not enough to keep me interested.
My wife and I went to Gillette WY for a vacation and I started this book as we left home... We sat in the car listening when we stopped for gas, for food etc. We were sold!
Dick Hill was believable in his telling and Lee Child, being such a great writer, made the flow and suspense unbearable! That's a GOOD thing! I have read several of Lee's books now and cant wait until we go to Gillette again so I can pop in another Reacher book!

Nail biter and edge of the seat action!
Revisado: 12-26-17
What did you love best about The Darkness of Evil?
I really liked the surprise ending, I never saw it coming! The cadence of the story was well done, it paced out very well and the author played it out bit by bit, not too fast or slow. Vale showed real character in being both an emotional and vulnerable person as well as being a hard nosed detective. I see a new series coming from the ending as well, well done Alan!
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the way the story and the telling of it left a lot to my own imagination, there was not a lot of in your face gore but rather the innuendo was left in clear form for your mind to fill in what detail you need for the story. I find this to be the most important trait in writing, to little information leaves a person with a blank canvas and too much makes the painting appear to be a child's finger-painting. This telling made for a full painting telling the whole story but with minimal brush strokes.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Daniela Acitelli?
Now we come to what I didn't care for. Daniela's overly slow diction in this book was just painful! I loved her narration of 'Lady Killer' and was looking forward to another great telling but her insistently whiny and whimpy version of Karen Vale was stressful and took away from the character immensely. After checking out several of her YouTube trailers, I now understand that this is her style. I'm sorry but it's distracting, I really liked the conversational tone over the drawn-out diction.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I gave her a normal upbringing, just like any kid!

Dark but not in a good way.
Revisado: 12-26-17
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This book may be enjoyed by someone with a different tolerance for fringe behaviors and thicker skin, I was turned off at every turn.
Has Random Bullets turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I will pay closer attention to the overall storytelling though, not at all my taste.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator didn't match the vocal inflection to the story, the highs and lows in volume and timbre were very distracting in being overdone in simple conversation and almost missing when needed to sell the story. A bit to Monte Python, over the top for me.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Not really, fat shaming, victimizing young girls, etc. Not my kind of mystery.
Any additional comments?
The overall writing style and pace was well done but the sensationalism was overkill, just present the story simply and give us the needed details, there really is no need to waste a whole chapter on why someone is overweight, sum it up and move on, we get it.
There was really no way to follow the book with this narrator, he was all over the place in his infliction and didn't even bother to change his voice or even the pace of his narration with different characters. His rather cheery voice saying "And he shot him in the back of the head." was so distracting and out of place, I had to take a month long break from this book.
