Historia
In this second volume of the Gorean Series, Tarl Cabot finds himself transported back to Counter-Earth from the sedate life he has known as a history professor on Earth. Tarl finds that his name on Gor has been tainted, his city defiled, and all those he loves have been made into outcasts. He is no longer in the position of a proud warrior, but an outlaw for whom the simplest answers must come at a high price. He wonders why the Priest Kings have called him back to Gor, and whether it is only to render him powerless.

Good, but could be better.
Revisado: 03-30-22
I first read this in the 1960s and had forgotten the story line. The story is very good the society and culture is described in a thoughtful and imaginative way. However,Cabot’s decision making at key points was problematic at best and down right stupid at its worse in this tale.
The series gets better over the next 5 or so books then goes downhill from there. Never got past the Beasts of Gor, for the trend of getting into more long winded details of dominating females was obvious. Sad really, the stories told and the world created was fascinating.

Intense, realistic and depressing as hell
Revisado: 01-29-18
Unfortunately a very possible scenario. A well planned coordinated terrorist attack nationwide like this is terrifying and I believe the author’s intent was to illustrate this in a very brutal realistic way. The problem is that the “good guys” do such idiotic things and almost virtually never do anything right until the last few chapters. The husband and wife lead characters are just this side curling up in the fetal position and checking out mentally, stumbling forward from one bad decision to the next. There is very little to “cheer” about until you get near the end and even then the finish is quite dark and depressing. Again all of this is very possible, even likely if this scenario ever occurred. Would have liked to see someone on our side have it all together and perhaps a small victory or two before the last couple of chapters. We need to pay attention to this wake-up call.

Love Rawles' Books including this one, But......
Revisado: 03-31-15
Great story and character development as expected, but there were several times where there were lengthy passages that covered details of organization and equipment that did not move forward the story and interrupted the flow of the story (the capture of a Chinese spy, description of the construction of intelligence infrastructure, to name two). Still a recommended read/listen.

At first, only a few things are known about the celestial object that astronomers dub Rama. It is huge, weighing more than ten trillion tons. And it is hurtling through the solar system at inconceivable speed. Then a space probe confirms the unthinkable: Rama is no natural object. It is, incredibly, an interstellar spacecraft. Space explorers and planet-bound scientists alike prepare for mankind's first encounter with alien intelligence.

Still An Absolute Classic of Sci-Fi
Revisado: 06-02-13
What did you like best about this story?
Its timeless brilliance, scope, and dare I say majesty. It is simply one of the top ten Sci-fi novels of all time. It is, what, 40 years old, or thereabouts, and it is still modern, original and extremely well written.
Have you listened to any of Peter Ganim and Robert J. Sawyer (Introduction) ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Others complain about the narration, but I felt it was fine, perhaps not the best but more than adequate.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?

For Robert Langdon fans this is a disappointment
Revisado: 05-29-13
What did you like best about The Lost Symbol? What did you like least?
The story line was great, but the constant repetition of info became tedious. Here is Langdon being chased one again with the female lead in tow and each time they or anyone else solves another part of the "puzzle" they play 20 questions with whomever they are with. No one ever straight up says what they have found out, they make a game of it. Robert is under a severe deadline, national security is on the line, lives are in danger and he plays 20 questions with everyone, and everyone plays 20 questions with him. Langdon also says to the effect "I don't believe it." or "impossible" about 100 times throughout the book which makes him look like a extremely well educated idiot. Way too much backstory. The gruesome parts are too long and too gruesome. Saying all of this, it is still worth a credit, I mean, it is written by Dan Brown. We all know he can do better, and I most sincerely hope he does so n the future.
Would you be willing to try another book from Dan Brown? Why or why not?
Yes, because he has written great stories like the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Paul Michael?
Yes
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Maybe.

Historia
In 1912, history was changed by the Miracle, when the old world of Europe was replaced by Darwinia, a strange land of nightmarish jungle and antediluvian monsters. To some, the Miracle was an act of divine retribution; to others, it is an opportunity to carve out a new empire. Leaving an America now ruled by religious fundamentalists, young Guilford Law travels to Darwinia on a mission of discovery that will take him further than he can possibly imagine.

A Great Disappointment
Revisado: 12-28-12
Any additional comments?
Very complex plot, which in itself is not bad, but in this case poorly executed. Narration was very good, unfortunately the story was not. The lead character is in complete denial throughout 85-90% of the book as to the reality of his situation to the point being very aggravating. The ending is rather ho-hum and is not satisfying; when I read fiction I prefer the “good guys’ to win decisively.

Historia
Going far beyond a military account, Segev re-creates the crisis in Israel before 1967, showing how economic recession, a full grasp of the Holocaust's horrors, and the dire threats made by neighbor states combined to produce a climate of apocalypse. He depicts the country's bravado after its victory and the mood revealed in a popular joke in which one soldier says to his friend, "Let's take over Cairo". The friend replies, "Then what shall we do in the afternoon?"

Superb Historical Reference
Revisado: 08-27-10
Well written and thoroughly researched using mostly primary resources, this book gives a detailed account of the year 1967 from the Israeli perspective. Not restricting himself solely to the 6 Day War but socieo-economic, cultural, historical, as well as military aspects of that pivotal year. The book seems to be objective citing the good and the bad of the decisions of the Israeli government and military during 1967. So much background information is provided that the book is occassionaly tedious, nonetheless the book is highly recommended.
