Many of the tales told in here matches up with Feldlers book, which is good. But it is nice to hear the story from mostly all sides. But hearing the history of many other performers and bands is what I like, I've always loved the interwoven stories of different bands together.

The reader kind of bugged me, felt very flat, almost AI like. though, hearing some things and how he said it made me laugh.

And it's Patty Smyth, not Smith. Way different singers entirely.

All in all it was an ok book, I like the Eagles, and wanted to hear a little more about them. Wasn't a bad purchase, bur wouldn't go out of my way to re listen anytime soon.

I loved the humble beginning of Felders life, the story was definitely a rags to riches story that really makes you feel good. It helps showcase his own humble personality that Don has always shown in interviews and on stage.

This book really change my views on Henley and Frey, even Walsh for that matter. Granted, Henley is a heck of a wordsmith, and a vocalist and I always lived, and still love, his music. But how arrogant, conceited, and ego driven he is, as well as Frey was (rest his soul). Walsh really turned into a yes man, as did Schmidt, who left Felder high and dry, without a friend in the world.

Honestly, Don said it perfectly, "the Eagles weren't a band. Just session musicians that got together to make music and leave" and I can say that sounds about right. But they really did him dirty. It's still good he came up on top and still feels good about himself today.

Sure, still love thr Eagles, Henleys music, but I lost that respect I had as a whole for them. Felder may nit have been a hit maker, or a grand star, but he is still a talented musician, a humble human, and a great person in general.

I've listened to Grunge is Dead at least three times now ao I can relive, in my mind anyway, the good days of the 90s for me. I love all kinds of music, metal, some pop, EDM, dark ambient, trip hop, classic rock, Mowtown/Soul, a little country, but Grunge was always and will always be my main love. It's an old friend that's always been there for me.

So, of course I'll do anything to learn every detail about it, trivia, facts, first hand accounts. This book is a great follow up/companion piece to GID. It was nice to hear other stories of each of the main bands from that era, ans hear more stories of how they formed, how they felt after the tragic deaths of their fellow musicians and friends.

There xould have been a bit more on the Screaming Trees and Lanegan, but again, thr weren't as bug as the rest of the groups were, but still highly Influential, ans Lanegan had a great career after the Trees. Butat least they were mentioned a bit towards the end.

My only other issue is the reader himself. Whilehes a great writer, and does an amazing job of compiling information and interviews, is reading is kind of rough. GIS was often hard to listen to, as was Lanegan, and this is roughly the same. But not everyone has great speaking voices, and he does do his best

I highly recommend this book to those who want a little more history of the last great musical movement that never was. And I still am grateful for Prato doing these amazing books.

The Light Side of The Screaming Trees Story

If "Sing Backwards and Weep" was Lanegans dark retelling of his time with The Trees and his life, then Martin's story was the light side, the perfect balance.

Barrett told his stories with great emotive passion, even hearing his giddy, happy, verge of laughing sense of telling that made me crack smiles and laugh, too.

Martin had a sense of self reflection of not only his experiences, but his feelings during that time period. You could hear joy in his voice in many parts, also sadness upon speaking of the dark times, the downside of their career together, and of course, the passing of Lanegan and Van Conner.

The part that still has me laughing was, the fact I was walking in Walmart with my earbuds in and listening, when he said "let me repeat this for you. Mark Lanegan said that "I" had a drinking problem " I laughed ao loud and hard that other people just have thought I was crazy.

I have been waiting for this to pop up on Audible for awhile now, as I'm a major fan of The Trees, and I'm glad it is finally here. It makes me sad to know that two members are gone, but we still have Martin to tell the stories, and ti continue to make great music.

Thank you for this wonderful book, and for the great way it was written and told, for yourself, snd for us, the fans. If you're a fan of thr Trees, Martin, 90s Alt music, this is definitely for you.

I grew up idolizing Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Lanegan Cornell, Wood, the rest of the scene, but after listening to this about Kurt, I found him to be a little bit pompous and egotistical. To me, from what I gathered from this, he felt like he was the Alpha and Omega of rock and that his word was the endgame.

don't get me wrong, I still love his music, respect him as a human, but yeah, I feel he did Krist and Dave dirty, yes, he did write the songs, but who else would play drums and bass? anyone, that's the problem. Anyone would do it to "play in Nirvana" which would have gone against his standards. Nonetheless, he was still who he was, and he was a human.

Kurt Loder did a good job reading, albeit dry and a few mispronounced words, but otherwise, he did great.

its true what they say, never meet your heroes.
