Mia Tang has a lot of secrets. Number one: She lives in a motel, not a big house. Every day, while her immigrant parents clean the rooms, 10-year-old Mia manages the front desk of the Calivista Motel and tends to its guests. Number two: Her parents hide immigrants. And if the mean motel owner, Mr. Yao, finds out they've been letting them stay in the empty rooms for free, the Tangs will be doomed. Number three: She wants to be a writer. But how can she when her mom thinks she should stick to math because English is not her first language?

Incredible story!
Revisado: 11-27-20
My 9 year old daughter and I listened to this story on our commute to and from school—and what an unexpected surprise it was for us! The cover looked more like a humorous story, and instead it was filled with REAL LIFE. This book led to fantastic discussions about the real world issues it explores, moments with my daughter that I wouldn’t trade for the world! We not only LOVED this book—we are thankful for the opportunities it gave us to grow as mother and daughter, and overall as more empathetic humans.

Everything we hoped for!
Revisado: 05-17-20
Ivan was the FIRST chapter book my daughter and I read together, around 5 years ago. It is a story near and dear to both of our hearts, and always will be. When we heard about Bob, we were downright giddy! We talked about what we thought the plot would entail, whether or not Ivan would be in it, and more. We absolutely LOVED this book—it was everything we hoped it would be!! The plot is carefully thought out and flawlessly executed. The characters are beyond memorable—we feel like we know them. Listening on audible was a bonus, because the great Danny DeVito is quite possibly the greatest narrator of all time!!! This is now another favorite book, and I’m so thankful to get to share it with my daughter!

Historia
Wherever the sharks led, Lucy Everhart's marine-biologist mother was sure to follow. She was on a boat far off the coast of Massachusetts, collecting shark data when she died suddenly. Lucy was seven. Since then Lucy and her father have kept their heads above water - thanks in large part to a few close friends and neighbors. But June of her 12th summer brings more than the end of school and a heat wave to sleepy Rockport. On one steamy day, the tide brings a great white - and then another tragedy....

A wonderful book with healing powers
Revisado: 02-22-20
This beautiful story holds within its pages the power to help people of all ages process grief from the loss of a loved one. As a parent, there are many conversations initiated by the topics covered in the story line. As a reader, it was highly thought-provoking and enriching. As an educator, the plot is well-executed and themes are deeply meaningful. Overall, this has become one of my favorite books, and I can’t wait to share it!
