Another masterpiece by Will Thomas. I burned through it too fast and now it is gone. It was real pleasure to get lost again in a great story.

Improving
Revisado: 04-15-22
The stories are always excellent. However, the first two books were annoying with constant explanations. It felt like mansplaining. By the fourth book, these explanations were significantly reduced. The narrator's foreign accents in the Angel of Death were not always pleasing. They were either overly precise or were missing something. However, in the fourth book, the NZ accents were much better. The voices of CJ and Stella are good as are the other American voices. Aside from these concerns, the narration was very good. The books reminded me a little of the culinary mysteries of Josi Kilpack. Perhaps the best way to classify these books are to identify them as a new genre of tourist mysteries (half travel adventure, half mystery). By the end of the fourth book, I became hooked. I suspect I will listen to all of them.

Historia
When a badly mutilated body washes up on the shores of Loch Ness, DCI Jack Logan's dream of a quiet life in the Highlands is shattered. While the media speculates wildly about monster attacks, Jack and the Major Investigations Team must act fast to catch the killer before they can strike again. But with Nessie-hunters descending on the area in their dozens, and an old enemy rearing his ugly head, the case could well turn out to be the most challenging of Jack's career. And, if he isn't careful, the last.

Good, but...
Revisado: 03-04-22
I loved the story and characters. The plot was excellent. This is a great series, except that there is far too much vulgarity for me to tolerate. I am hesitant to listen to another in the series.

Historia
Zero day: a software bug that allows a hacker to break into your devices and move around undetected. One of the most coveted tools in a spy's arsenal, a zero day has the power to silently spy on your iPhone, dismantle the safety controls at a chemical plant, alter an election and shut down the electric grid (just ask Ukraine). For decades, under cover of classification levels and non-disclosure agreements, the United States government became the world’s dominant hoarder of zero days.

One of his Todd's best works
Revisado: 01-07-22
This book keeps you guessing until the end and is so full of moving parts that you have to keep yourself fully alert and calculating to follow all of them to the book's conclusion. I suppose this is the nature of lies and deceit. They mask the truth very well.

Historia
That man should have dominion “over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth” is a prophecy that has hardened into fact. So pervasive are human impacts on the planet that it’s said we live in a new geological epoch: the Anthropocene. The question we now face is: Can we change nature, this time in order to save it? Elizabeth Kolbert, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Sixth Extinction, takes a hard look at the new world we are creating.

Fatalistic
Revisado: 05-04-21
This book was far more fatalistic than the 6th extinction. What was the point of listing the problems and possible solutions if the final prognosis was questionable at best and terrifying at worst. Still, the author gives the listener something to pause over and deeply consider. And even though the boat is going down doesn't mean the band shouldn't play.

Historia
China's Belt and Road Initiative is the world's most ambitious and misunderstood geoeconomic vision. To carry out President Xi's flagship foreign-policy effort, China promises to spend more than one trillion dollars for new ports, railways, fiber-optic cables, power plants, and other connections. It touches more than 130 countries and has expanded into the Arctic, cyberspace, and even outer space. Beijing promises that it is promoting global development, but Washington warns that it is charting a path to global dominance.

Boring and Fascinating
Revisado: 03-18-21
This is a well-told story with many salient facts about China's BRI. While I would have liked to speed up the story at times, the abundance of information was useful and enlightening. I came away with a much deeper understanding of China's economic operations throughout the developing world.

Historia
Actor Kelsey Grammer, best known for his roles in the TV sitcoms Cheers and Frasier, delivers Bitter Brew, a compelling mystery featuring Detective Bill Walsh, an upstate cop in the quiet, rural town of Beatriceville, 200 miles north of New York City, who suspects foul play in the death of millionaire city transplant Jonathan Kimball, even though the evidence points to suicide, not murder.
