Great characters and great plot development. Beth is a nonconformist who carries her job description to a next level. Loved the narrator, stories come to life quickly when the narrator is this good. Moving right along to book 2.

Historia
In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

I’m a Democrat, but appreciate Liz Cheney’s gumpti
Revisado: 04-04-24
I’m a very liberal Democrat. I am not generally a fan of Liz Cheneys. I really disliked her father and have always had a visceral reaction to the Cheney name. War mongering, capitalist and, in truth, folks who do not care about the poor. Past republicans bear some responsibility for Trump and his cadre of clowns. This book has made me like Liz., really like her. The book is laid out in a way that non-lawyers/non-political person see it. She writes well and her narration is great. I love the recordings of committee members, witnesses and news casts. Cheney has a detailed command of history from the early days of America to these current events. By the end of the book I felt Liz Cheneys eyes were open wide to the disparities of American politics. She sacrificed her career in the House of Representatives to protect our democracy. I am still far from being a conservative and far from being a Republican, I am a bit of a Liz Cheney fan.

Historia
When his mother became President, Alex Claremont-Diaz was promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, genius—his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There's only one problem: Alex has a beef with the actual prince, Henry, across the pond. And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an Alex-Henry altercation, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse.

Wow, what can I say?
Revisado: 08-22-23
This story has two good points, it is thought provoking and Aaron Shedlock’s narration. The story is just too long and too miserable. It should not be published in a six book package, there is too much drudgery. If there had been an occasional bright spot it would have been more tolerable. Nobody needs 26 and a half hours of this. Another issue for me is the skipping narration, The story was so hard to stomach then it jumped to another person’s hard to stomach story that was so hard to catch up on. Post apocalyptic fiction, by its nature, is drudgery and the writer needs to take that into account. Throw the listener an occasional bone.

Worst narration I have ever heard
Revisado: 03-22-23
I can’t really say how good the story was because the narrator was so very bad. I have listened to about 4000 audiobooks and this narration was the worst I’ve heard. It is a British mystery and the accent was a very bad country hick southern American accent. I had to skip much of the book in 10 chapter increments thinking I needed it to keep up with the series. It was totally unnecessary, if only I hand known. This book needs to be re-recorded. It is really unfair to your listeners to subject them to this book. I might give the narrator one more chance, might not. I usually give everyone, writer and reader a second chance, this one just might be too bad for that.

Historia
London, 1889. For Ira Adler, former rent-boy and present plaything of crime lord Cain Goddard, stealing back the statue from Goddard's blackmailer should have been a doddle. But inside the statue is evidence that could put Goddard away for a long time under the sodomy laws, and everyone's after it, including Ira's bitter ex, Dr. Timothy Lazarus.

Best Book Ever
Revisado: 01-17-23
I do believe this is the best book I have ever listened to. It is, as they say, everting. It is an epic saga of love and loss, joy and pain, coming of age and coming out. Kirt Graves does an incredible job with the narration. He is one of my favorites and he does not disappoint. I just can’t think of enough nice things to say about this book.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Historia
As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

Just the touch of magic I needed today
Revisado: 11-07-22
This book landed in my library as if by magic. It was not recommended by anyone and I can’t remember how I got it. I am so very glad that I did. This lovely story was beautiful written and expertly narrated. The story is sweet and funny with a touch of melancholy. It is a magical tale of love and loss and finding your true home and family. Sangu Mandanna’s writing is rich and descriptive of the world she builds to gently house and nurture these quirky characters. I loved the story and the characters who seem so real to me. Samara MacLaren is the perfect narrator for this story and I will seek out her voice in future listens.

Historia
Henry never realized he was special. Sure, he’s an engineer who served his country, but when the virus hit, he found himself alone in a nearly empty world. That’s the key, though: nearly empty. There’s no one left who has the technical know-how to make the world run again...except for Henry. For humanity to survive, he will have to rebuild society out of the motley crew of survivors. It might be impossible, but at the same time, Henry has always loved a challenge.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 10-15-22
I added this book for free. I love post apocalyptic fiction and listen to a good bit of it. Another draw for me was Ryan West, I’ve listened to several of his romance books, he does those very well. I had no idea of Simon Archer’s writing, never heard of him. Well, he writes make romance, I mean straight male romance. Everything about his writing is geared to young adult males. There’s guns, cars and sexy women. When I checked him out I found that this is his genre, kind of young adult male fantasy. I’m good with that. This story is a bit derivative, it’s like many other post apocalyptic stories, with more sex. Hey, I read straight romance, male/male romance, both straight and m/m paranormal romance and several sub genres of all of these. This book is interesting as I have a very mild interest in prepping and, after Covid and the political situation in America, fear of civil unrest. So, this book tics a lot of my boxes. I enjoyed it as mindless entertainment, it ain’t great literature.
