Historia
Senator Jon Tester is a rare voice in Congress. He is the only United States senator who manages a full-time job outside of the Senate - as a farmer. But what has really come to distinguish Tester in the Senate is his commitment to accountability, his ability to stand up to Donald Trump, and his success in, time and again, winning red state voters back to the Democratic Party.

Incredible Book and Man
Revisado: 04-01-24
"Grounded" by Jon Tester receives a resounding 5-star rating for its detailed journey through Tester's life, from the pivotal moments of his childhood, including the accident that led to the loss of his fingers, to his brief stint in high school sports. The narrative then transitions into his teaching career, his impactful role on the school board, and his progressive steps into the Montana Legislature, culminating in his tenure in the U.S. Senate. Tester's resilience and principled stand, especially amidst harassment from former President Trump, is not just commendable but inspirational. This book does more than recount the life of a dedicated public servant; it offers a deep dive into the essence of what it means to remain "Grounded" in one’s values against the backdrop of political turbulence. A staunch supporter of Jon Tester, I am eagerly anticipating his 2024 campaign, confident in his continued dedication to serving Montana with integrity.

A Gripping Chronicle of Scandal and Murder in Early 20th Century America
Revisado: 09-15-23
In "Poisoning the Pecks of Grand Rapids: The Scandalous 1916 Murder Plot", Tobin T. Buhk crafts a compelling narrative that unveils the dark underbelly of American high society in the early 20th century. Narrated adeptly by Daniel Henning, this true-crime tale immerses listeners in a web of deceit, greed, and betrayal that spirals from the marriage of the charming Arthur Warren Waite to the daughter of the wealthy Peck family.
The plot unravels with an electrifying pace as Buhk details Waite's meticulously planned scheme to secure his wife's inheritance, a plan marred by an unexpected telegram that sets off a series of startling discoveries. Buhk showcases his talent as a seasoned true crime writer with a narrative that navigates between Grand Rapids and New York City, tracing Waite's nefarious activities and the eventual unravelling of his carefully orchestrated plot.
Daniel Henning lends his voice to bring depth and nuance to this shocking historical account, adeptly capturing the atmosphere of a society shaken to its core by the audacity and complexity of Waite's actions. Henning's narration breathes life into the personalities involved, offering listeners a vivid glimpse into the mind of a man driven by unfathomable greed and deceit.
What struck me personally was the connection to the Pecks, albeit not familial, the title immediately pulled me in. It not only promised a riveting journey into a historical crime but also carried a personal resonance, igniting curiosity to delve deeper into the scandal that rocked Grand Rapids in 1916. The detailed account did not disappoint, offering not only a thrilling tale but also a stark warning against the dangers of ambition unrestrained by moral boundaries.
In conclusion, "Poisoning the Pecks of Grand Rapids" stands as a testament to the art of true crime storytelling, where Buhk masterfully dissects a century-old murder plot with the precision of a seasoned detective. Coupled with Henning's immersive narration, this account offers a thrilling glimpse into a scandalous chapter of American history, keeping listeners on the edge of their seats until the very end. A must-listen for aficionados of true crime and historical narratives alike.

Historia
Cattle Kate is the only woman ever lynched as a cattle rustler. History called it "range-land justice" when she was strung up in Wyoming Territory on July 20, 1889, tarring her as a dirty thief and a filthy whore. But history was wrong. It was all a lie. Her real name was Ella Watson. She wasn't a rustler. She wasn't a whore. And she'd never been called Cattle Kate until she was dead and they needed an excuse.

I am the great grandson of John DeCory. Heartbreaking Dive into the Historical Injustices of the Wild West
Revisado: 09-15-23
Jana Bommersbach takes her readers on a stirring journey back to the rugged terrains of the late 19th-century Wyoming through her evocative debut novel, "Cattle Kate". She resuscitates the tarnished legacy of Ella Watson, painting a portrait that is not only more accurate but also profoundly humane.
Content: The novel throws you deep into a gross miscarriage of justice where the roar of greed and power silences truth and fairness. Through meticulous research and deft narration, Bommersbach uncovers the raw and authentic tale of Ella Watson, a woman who had her identity rewritten by history. The reader is taken through Ella's life, her struggles and the untimely, brutal end that came to be known as the story of "Cattle Kate". In doing so, Bommersbach not only corrects a historical wrong but also presents a scathing critique of the unchecked power wielded by the Wyoming Stock Growers Association during that era.
Narration: The narrative shines in presenting the events from Ella's perspective, which adds a deeply personal touch to the unfolding tragedy. Readers are allowed inside Ella's mind, giving space to connect with her hopes, dreams, and the injustices she faced. Bommersbach seamlessly merges facts with a fictionalized narrative to present a well-rounded view of Ella - a woman far removed from the notorious image that was falsely projected onto her.
Personal Reflection: As the great-grandson of John DeCory, reading "Cattle Kate" feels akin to witnessing a rectification of a long-standing injustice. The rich content and well-crafted narrative not only reflect the harrowing experience of Ella but also echo the sentiments of many others who witnessed the terrible act. This personal connection might instill in readers a greater appreciation for the advocacy for truth and justice, which is a central theme in the book.
In conclusion, "Cattle Kate" stands as a beacon of truth in the vast sea of distorted historical narratives. Jana Bommersbach crafts a compelling story that is not only a fight against the erasure of a woman's true legacy but also a poignant reflection on the cruelties of the time. A well-written, heart-wrenching novel that demands a place in the annals of significant historical fiction, shining a light on the need to constantly question and rectify the stories that history often mistakenly etches in stone.

I am from Butte. I grew up intrigued by history and studying it. Especially the copper kings. Following the Clark lineage was always intriguing, but much of it was hard to trace from Butte. Empty mansions really opened the flood gates to new connections. The moment I saw news of this book I was so excited. Cataract surgeries later I have become a fan of audio books and I get excited for the Easter eggs like the author jumping in. Great research. Great writing. Great emotional replication.

Historia
When Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Bill Dedman noticed in 2009 a grand home for sale, unoccupied for nearly 60 years, he stumbled through a surprising portal into American history. Empty Mansions is a rich mystery of wealth and loss, connecting the Gilded Age opulence of the 19th century with a 21st-century battle over a $300 million inheritance. At its heart is a reclusive heiress named Huguette Clark, a woman so secretive that, at the time of her death at age 104, no new photograph of her had been seen in decades.
