Historia
In the 10th year of the Change, the survivors in Western Oregon live in a world without technology. Michael Havel’s Bearkillers hold the lands west of Salem in peace and order. To the east, the Clan Mackenzie flourishes under the leadership of Juniper Mackenzie, bard and high priestess. Together, they have held Norman Arminger - the warlord of Portland - at bay.

Terrible audio. Good story
Revisado: 06-01-23
I’ve read this series in paperback, so I knew I enjoyed the story. I saw the graphics audio option, and was feeling adventurous.
Mistake.
The sound effects are distracting. Often, they are louder than the voice that is speaking, or not related to what the speaker is saying. Scenes tend to end abruptly and often feel incomplete. Sterling does a good job of foreshadowing in his writing, but that is lost in the graphic audio version.
I have listened to ensemble audiobooks before and enjoyed them. This wasn’t an ensemble performance so much as a bunch of different people reading bits and pieces of a story. Overall, the performance reminds me of a children’s Christmas pageant performance where the lines are mostly memorized, and you can kind of hear, but the performers are speaking as individuals rather than as actors.
I will be avoiding graphix audio performances in the future.

Historia
Of course, if there were only one thing under Liscor, there would be far less to fear. However, the dungeon continues to be a threat. At the same time, Goblins continue to roam northern Izril, but not all of them are as hostile to people as Tremborag or the Goblin Lord. Will the Unseen Emperor of Riverfarm make that distinction, however? A reckoning is coming as old faces and new reemerge. And all the while, The Wandering Inn is still serving food and respite and even plays to adventurers and Antinium alike. But something is coming from the dungeons. And it—they—are hungry.

Wow
Revisado: 12-22-22
I don’t write reviews. I bet most of you don’t. But this book…this series of books is not ordinary. It inspires me.
The scope of this tale defies a simple description. I found myself wondering what characters were doing that we’re not even part of this particular book. The scope of these stories are not contained to a single perspective, but provide a real universe, where the implications of actions are not easily predicted. This story is not about a single hero, but the cast… Cast that grows, learns, changes, evolves.
Thank you, pirateaba. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to visit your world, to experience the characters, to dream with you. Thank you.
