Historia
Set against the backdrop of the turbulent 13th century, a time of chivalry and crusades, poetry, knights, and monarchs, comes the story of the four beautiful daughters of the count of Provence, whose brilliant marriages made them the queens of France, England, Germany, and Sicily.

A Fascinating Study
Revisado: 04-09-10
Four Queens is a very "listenable" account of the lives of four sisters from Provence. I liked the narrator (who on a few occasions went into dramatic overdrive). I'm going to the south of France soon and I picked up some valuable history along with enjoying a well-told story.

Historia
With exquisite care, National Book Critics Circle Award winner Louise Erdrich has fashioned a story rich in the way of life and heritage of the Ojibwa people, a story that begs to be told out loud. As each season in a year of Omakayas' life is lovingly portrayed, the satisfying rhythm of her days is shattered when a stranger visits the lodge one night, bringing with him an invisible enemy that will change things forever.

A remarkable book
Revisado: 08-18-04
I got this book for my granddaughter, but listened to it myself first. I became engrossed with the characters and story. Louise Erdrich brings to this story the same sense of place and depth of character that she brings to her books for adult readers. Enjoyable and worthwhile.

Historia
Every year on January 1, a quirky crowd of adventurers storms out across North America for a spectacularly competitive event called a Big Year: a grand, grueling, expensive, and occasionally vicious, "extreme" 365-day marathon of birdwatching. For three men in particular, 1998 would be a whirlwind, a winner-takes-nothing battle for a new North American birding record.

Fascinating, Exciting
Revisado: 04-05-04
Once the groundwork has been laid, the main characters take over and the Big Year finishes with high drama. I rooted for the underdog and am still astonished at the sheer physical endurance of the three men in pursuit of the Holy Grail of birding. A fun, interesting, sometimes heart-stopping "read."
