Historia
In this intriguing book, evolutionary biologist Scott Solomon draws on the explosion of discoveries in recent years to examine the future evolution of our species. Combining knowledge of our past with current trends, Solomon offers convincing evidence that evolutionary forces still affect us today. But how will modernization - including longer lifespans, changing diets, global travel, and widespread use of medicine and contraceptives - affect our evolutionary future?

Revisado: 04-27-23
I left a great review as the narration and subject matter presented was interesting and informative.
Evolution theory, for whatever it really is, is always backwards looking. This book explains some things needed to get a dim glance at the future. This is great for explanations of the (perhaps) present way of things and why the way things are the way they are possibly; but poor for engineering or predicting.
I have listened to a few other Evolutionary type books, Evolutionary Psychology I & II (which is closer to my interests and studies), and Evolutionary Biology (which is largely what "Future Humans" is made up of.) And others are planned in audio in this lecture series take on Evolution WRT the human condition. The jump from a creature in the forest to being a creature that now has a brain that can do what it does --- happened very quickly, We went from being dull and plodding to something electric, like we can now each play, "Switched on Bach"..
He only mentions Crispr and the idea of extinction WRT the future human. While Crispr is new and exciting, we do not know near enough about genetics to do this well to a large extent. And the current dynamic of population migration and industrial technology's impacts on our evolutionary state, going into the future is to soon to know, and not well understood. as to its possible impact.
I don't feel like they explain well the current state of mind of current people, though it does cover the how and possible why of our overall condition (especially in evolutionary psychology). Which is why creationists do push back on Evolution as an idea.- It does not explain near enough to suit our current frame of mind at all: nor does psychology in general do this well.
Religion also has no clue - it seems more a limbic system palliative.
But Evolution as a theory does make history and genetics a more interesting story (more the cause of our condition rather than the rule, not that we really understand all the ins-and-outs of what we are.
But it does make for compelling narrative and interesting evidence to support the idea of evolution as a theory as we turn to genetics with harder problems and questions.
Strange Theosophy - science and its purveyors do come off that way to me most often, and yet I like science and its methods.

I enjoyed this.
Revisado: 04-11-23
This aligns extremely well with my own thinking in Metaphysical Science. My courses did not teach what is presented here. I had to figure that out on my own. I am surprised this new approach to psychology has done so well and is so close to my own understanding of what we are and how we work. The evolutionary aspect is just a plus to me and was quite fun.
There is a lot more that can be covered that is not presented here.
I did not like Part I so much. Perhaps I will give it second chance after really enjoying Evolutionary Psychology Part II.
A very good course on what likely makes us - what we are.

Historia
Richard Dawkins and Deepak Chopra are two of the most famous Big Thinkers of our time. And yet their deeply acrimonious, decade-long battle over God, human consciousness and "quantum healing" has gone unchronicled until now. Dawkins, a best-selling author and evolutionary biologist who coined the term "meme", has staked his name on the cause of militant atheism.

The narration was okay. Spoken as in reflective thought. It was okay as it has a pondering drawl to it that I think was intentional and is the technique the author wanted.
The subject material : This could have been shortened a good bit and still be on point. Still the same old story; materialistic versus dualistic (dualism) thinking. Nothing new was presented to me.
I am a Metaphysicist (Bachelor's of Metaphysical Science working on a Masters : (heavy on science and psychology.)) And I am still in the dualism camp. And too, somehow something of us survives a bodily death. Its nature is still elusive is my thinking.
This book does explore what is thought of this subject as it explores champions of both camps.
Well done.

Historia
A story of defiance and determination by a controversial scientist, this is Lee Berger's own take on finding Homo naledi, an all-new species on the human family tree and one of the greatest discoveries of the 21st century. In 2013, Lee Berger, a National Geographic explorer-in-residence, heard of a cache of bones in a hard-to-reach underground cave in South Africa. He put out a call around the world for petite collaborators - men and women small and adventurous enough to be able to squeeze through eight-inch tunnels to reach a sunless cave forty feet underground. It worked.

In this collection of lectures that Richard Feynman originally gave in 1963, unpublished during his lifetime, the Nobel Prize-winning physicist discusses several of the ultimate questions of science. What is the nature of the tension between science and religious faith? Why does uncertainty play such a crucial role in the scientific imagination? Is this really a scientific age?

Strange thoughts for a Scientiest ...
Revisado: 08-31-20
There was no solid ideas for which to hang your hat (thinking). It is of some comfort that one so well respected seems so rudderless a lot of the time.
It is rather long (it seemed so- near 3 hours) I would have thought he could condense his thinking better. It was all over different lines of thoughts. Nothing seemed to stand out to me. Just his thoughts on this and that.

Fantastic info for new and experienced authors ...
Revisado: 08-22-20
I have written a good deal. I have my style. This book covers the elements you will need to know and use in your style you will develop.
It does have a good deal of example detail using mostly the popular movies from books, method, or popular shows and TV that all have to use the same elements as a book does - in film. But all writing books I've looked at do this too. This author did well.
You get a great perspective on what you need to consider in the elements of your work.
This is well developed and presented material and clear to its points.
For me, this audiobook was a great reminder that writing is a craft - not a science. It spawns from the joy of reading wonderful tales and seeing great TV and film, and it boils over into the desire for you to write stories just as good. We all have the desire (along with the quest of fame and fortune - learn to write well first) ... the how to do it is a lot tougher than you think. I use (or try to) the elements presented here. And that is the craft - in how - do you develop your story. The author tells you want you need to pay attention to very well. It is up to you to make it happen in your stories.
It does take a deep understanding of the elements presented here. All writing books lead by example. That is all you can do. You may write for many years, and we all try and promote our work. This book is not extensively long. But it covers a lot of the elements and ideas you need to pay attention to.
I found it useful as it is a great reminder of what things a writer needs to pay heed to in the story they want to tell. And do use the chapter arrows as you revisit this book.
Well done.

Interesting ...
Revisado: 05-28-20
I did listen to the "Forward" series (for free). Popular authors. These are short and pretty good. It is interesting that they mentioned this. It is a 'Zon product - so yes of course. But they were good. So do it again? They were all Sci-Fi.
Short works are key - the listening experience is close to movie length - attention span thing. I write for audio as short works in Sci-Fi ... so take a gander. Second audiobook out soon of a series
I wish ACX/Audible would create a Select section for Sci-Fi like they do Escape (romance - ugh! gag!) There are more than enough titles. But the author's would have to sign up and be accepted - so would authors jump in? I think so. The books are too expensive (the <3 hour range --- $6.95 for a 1.5 hour audiobook - really?) and not worth the CREDIT to save the $. Thus traffic is low for those authors. But if there were a Select program for Sci-Fi? This could be managed by Audible/ACX and generate revenue for Audible and the authors.
The good sci-fi tends to be short. Paying for all the audiobooks you want can be expensive. So can you make a Select Audible Sci-Fi section like you do Escape? I would buy in. I can get them free with promo codes from Unleashed. But short works are hard to find there. I want short good Sci-Fi. Forward was great..
There really are not that many titles in Escape (and they are pretty long too). I think a Select Sci-Fi section would do much better. As an author i would get more traffic I think. eBooks are a bust so far - way to many eBooks (but I get good short works for free - (Top 100 Free)). Trying Goodreads, hope that is better for traffic. But Audio can be the next big thing in short Sci-Fi
So the point of this episode is to ...? See the interest in Sci-Fi ... maybe ...
