Historia
Neyam Shai Murad and Gotfred de Montbard have returned to the Blackstone Fortress, guided by a map projected by the mysterious artefact they found on their last expedition. With only the servitor X-101 to aid them, they seek a shrine they believe the map will lead them to - but the defences of the alien labyrinth stand against them, and should they find what they seek, they may discover that even greater foes await them, for many are the dangers that lurk within the Blackstone Fortress.

Fun scenery-chewing villains, weak ending

Entertaining, but at this point I expect more from Black Library audio drama writing. Best for completionists or Blackstone Fortress fans only.

Historia
Subterfuge and compromise walk hand in hand for an agent of the Throne. On the blighted world of Dustcorn, an assault on an Inquisitorial target goes badly awry, forcing Ianthe and her associates into a pact with an unscrupulous ally, the mysterious Zand. With her mission in tatters, Ianthe has little choice but to agree to Zand’s terms, the assassination of a perfidious traitor. But nothing is simple where Zand is concerned, and Ianthe soon finds herself in a situation that will have far-reaching consequences for her and her team.

Not perfect but still awesome 40k super-spy action
Revisado: 11-14-19
John French understands what makes 40k exciting and interesting - the conflict between truth and loyalty (sometimes called "faith," but really about commitment rather than eschatological concerns). Ianthe is such a good character, and the narrative conceit of the cigarette-smoking spy telling you her tales is perfect. This entry is slightly weaker than the previous by virtue of a somewhat formulaic plot (see: Eisenhorn book 1), and I didn't love all the sound design choices (I don't seem to recall Ianthe gasping/groaning so loudly in previous stories). Despite those minor critiques, it's still a great "movie for your mind" which I would highly recommend.

Historia
For Ianthe, war is all too familiar. A former soldier in the Astra Militarum, she now serves Inquisitor Covenant as an agent of the Throne. Her first mission sees her investigating a cult called the Children of Eternity. Falling foul of the local Enforcers, Ianthe soon learns that war in the shadows is seldom straightforward and that the local, angry law-keepers are the least of her troubles.

Maybe the best 40k radio drama!
Revisado: 04-06-19
Like Blade Runner meets Spec Ops in 40k. Good acting, appropriately pulpy noir writing, fun audio design!

Historia
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. But war is waged in many ways. From the dark places where 10,000-year-old psychic warriors interrogate living machines from a time before man, to a treacherous assassination plot that could bring an end to a centuries-old legacy of honour, to relic hunters who want to wrest secrets from a plague-ridden traitor or cross swords with a sinister Chaplain of the Dark Angels.

Excellent dramatized short stories in 40k
Revisado: 12-17-18
Great voice acting and soundscapes, but probably needs some broad 40k knowledge to enjoy; I still found the ending of the last story baffling.

Historia
In this edition, we hear, translated into modern English, 20-some tales, told in the voices of knight and merchant, wife and miller, squire and nun, and many more. Some are bawdy, some spiritual, some romantic, some mysterious, some chivalrous. Between the stories, the travelers converse, joke, and argue, revealing much about their individual outlooks upon life as well as what life was like in late 14th-century England.

Mostly entertaining, though some tales drag on. Great performance of incredibly influential cultural work, a window into Medieval daily life.

Historia
These 36 lectures tell the remarkable story of a tumultuous thousand-year period in the history of England. Dominated by war, conquest, and the struggle to balance the stability brought by royal power with the rights of the governed, it was a period that put into place the foundation of much of the world we know today. As you journey through this largely chronological narrative you'll see key themes emerge, including the assimilation of successive waves of invaders, the tense relationship between kings and the nobility, and the constant battles over money and taxation.

Yes, some parts are glossed over more than others, but it would've been impossible otherwise! Lots of nice connections to modern "general knowledge" to keep non-historians engaged.

Accept no substitutes: Chandler is true noir

Yes it's exaggerated similes and tough talk, but it's gold from this giant of noir fiction. One quibble, the narrator's female voice takes some getting used to, but it's actually quite helpful in the dialog.

Historia
The year is 1793, the eve of the Napoleonic Wars, and Horatio Hornblower, a 17-year-old boy unschooled in seafaring and the ways of seamen, is ordered to board a French merchant ship and take command of crew and cargo for the glory of England. Though not an unqualified success, this first naval adventure teaches the young midshipman enough to launch him on a series of increasingly glorious exploits.

Narrator was excellent, gave life to the characters and drama to the action, made I entertaining and understandable even for us land lubbers who don't know all the naval terminology.
