An amazing story that will move you to tears.
Revisado: 02-03-25
This is such an amazing book. I was moved to tears so many times. My heart hurts for the families that have not been able to communicate with each other. There is so much hope and inspiration to be taken from this book. I am so grateful that these stories are being shared.

Insight into serial killers
Revisado: 02-08-24
I found this book to be very informative in regards to understanding what goes on in the minds of serial killers. The book was also easy to understand and follow. It’s very rare that one gets the opportunity to see behind the curtain of someone that is professionally researching serial killers. One should know that this is not just about the brain/the why/the mind of a serial killer. The author recounts what took place during the murders as well. I would skip if you don’t want to hear those details or find it hard to listen too. It is beyond disturbing to say the least.

Historia
In 2015, Barbara Lipska - a leading expert on the neuroscience of mental illness - was diagnosed with melanoma that had spread to her brain. Within months, her frontal lobe, the seat of cognition, began shutting down. She descended into madness, exhibiting dementia- and schizophrenia-like symptoms that terrified her family and coworkers. But miraculously, the immunotherapy her doctors had prescribed worked quickly. Just eight weeks after her nightmare began, Lipska returned to normal. With one difference: she remembered her brush with madness with exquisite clarity.

Insight into the brain.
Revisado: 01-09-24
A great perspective on how our brain functions when healthy and unhealthy. The storyline was interesting and informative. I would believe the hope from reading this book is that we have more empathy for others. Our brains impact everything we do and when impacted negatively in any way, it can alter who we are, how we behave or how we function in society. Let’s us be more curious of others and less judgmental.

Historia
Talking about death and dying is considered taboo in polite company, and even in the medical field. Our ideas about dying are confusing at best: Will our memories flash before our eyes? Regrets consume our thoughts? Does a bright light appear at the end of a tunnel? For most people, it will be a slower process, one eased with preparedness, good humor, and a bit of faith. At the forefront of changing attitudes around palliative care is hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos, who shows that end-of-life care can teach us just as much about how to live as it does about how we die.

Historia
Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

Historia
Just when Glennon Doyle Melton was beginning to feel she had it all figured out - three happy children, a doting spouse, and a writing career so successful that her first book catapulted to the top of the New York Times best seller list - her husband revealed his infidelity and she was forced to realize that nothing was as it seemed. A recovering alcoholic and bulimic, Glennon found that rock bottom was a familiar place. In the midst of crisis, she knew to hold on to what she discovered in recovery: that her deepest pain has always held within it an invitation to a richer life.

The best book ever
Revisado: 08-14-22
I hate writing reviews because it’s hard to put my thoughts into words but this is such a beautiful, raw and truthful book about identity, gender roles, marriage, infidelity, growth, forgiveness, coming back to yourself, finding yourself and so much more. Glennon is a beautiful story teller and a gifted writer. I don’t know who this book is good for or not because I think it’s for everyone. We can all learn something in this book about love, life, honesty and connection. I was moved in so many ways. I listened to the audio version and am buying the paperwork so I can highlight and reread certain lines. It’s a book that will forever be on my shelf and one that I will return to again. To say that I recommend it would be an understatement.

Historia
A powerful, moving memoir - and a practical guide to healing - written by Dr. Edith Eva Eger, an eminent psychologist whose own experiences as a Holocaust survivor help her treat patients and allow them to escape the prisons of their own minds. The Choice weaves Eger's personal story with case studies from her work as a psychologist. Her patients and their stories illustrate different phases of healing and show how people can choose to escape the prisons they construct in their minds and find freedom, regardless of circumstance.
