Historia
Nathan Tyler is an unassuming professor at a middling American university with a rather obscure specialty in mathematics—in short, a nobody from nowhere. So why is the White House calling? Summoned to Washington, DC, for a top-secret briefing, Nathan discovers that he’s the key to a massive foreign intelligence breakthrough. Reading between the lines of a cryptic series of equations, he could open a door straight into the heart of the Kremlin and change the global balance of power forever.

Great story, horrible narration.
Revisado: 03-09-25
I've listened to almost all the author's books and love them. However, it's baffling how mismatched the narrators are in this book. Theo's is great as usual, but Jessica's speaks painfully slow with awkward pauses, and sounds very impersonal. I have 4 hours left and just can't finish, even after starting again and again.
A shame because the story is interesting. I'll probably get a physical copy to read as I don't want to pass this story up.

Great mesh of characters. Another great story and this one was a puzzler. Really well thought out and took a while to reveal the antagonist.
The only downside was Jessica's narrator. She speaks slow and sounds impersonal, making for an unnatural listen. But the other three narrators for Theo, Sloan, and Brad did great as usual.

Loved the 3 books in this series. Written well, phenomenal narration, and such good characters. Off to the next books in the standalone series which takes place in a different area in the same world but references the same characters.

Historia
As the ash and chaos from Mount Rainier’s eruption swirled and finally settled, the story of the Greenloop massacre has passed unnoticed, unexamined...until now. The journals of resident Kate Holland, recovered from the town’s bloody wreckage, capture a tale too harrowing - and too earth-shattering in its implications - to be forgotten. In this audiobook, Max Brooks brings Kate’s extraordinary account to light for the first time, faithfully reproducing her words alongside his own extensive investigations into the massacre and the legendary beasts behind it.

Entertainingly cheesy
Revisado: 01-26-25
Most interesting parts of the book were the scientific theories and references to other texts and studies. The story itself was cheesy, but under the painted circumstances, the characters reacted somewhat realistically. Shines light on how people would act when faced with real life threats & violence, if all they've ever known is living in an idealistic bubble.
The narration was fantastic so that helped get through the silly parts.

Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. Utterly fantastic. A book and narration worth gold.
Revisado: 10-22-24
Finally decided on this during a road trip after several hours of hunting in Audible. Wanted something worth listening to, and this ended up being just that. Really liked The Lies of Locke Lamora series and wanted a similarly awesome fantasy. This book and it's narration is superb and I consider myself quite picky. The author and narrator could have rambled on about a rock the whole time and I still would have loved it. Great style, no fluff or tangents, the characters each have realism and personality and the narrator does each one differently. I could keep track of who was speaking better than if I were to read the book.
For those used to this genre, I hope you'll enjoy it too. And for those like myself who dabble in the fantasy realm, this book is a treat. Not too abstract or requiring any background familiarity.

Love the detective work and the ending is such an unpredictable surprise! Held me captive until the last few minutes of the book!

Underrated and a surprise.
Revisado: 01-01-24
Fantastic storyline. Loved the sci-fi theme, and especially the deductive reasoning explained on behalf of the main character. Nice to have a more logical and less emotional based book to read (same goes for the auothor's other books). Even the cheesy elements were still reasonable for the circumstances and were at the least entertaining. So glad I finally listened to this book despite it being less popular from Mayne.
