Simon and Vicky couldn’t seem more normal: a wealthy Chicago couple, he a respected law professor, she an advocate for domestic violence victims. A stable, if unexciting marriage. But one thing’s for sure: absolutely nothing is what it seems. The pair are far from normal, and one of them just may be a killer. When the body of a beautiful socialite is found hanging in a mansion in a nearby suburb, Simon and Vicky’s secrets begin to unravel. A secret whirlwind affair. A twenty-million-dollar trust fund about to come due.

Great thriller!

It's funny I'm giving this such a high rating because I soft DNF'd it for 2 weeks when first started, but then I listened to it from the beginning again and really loved it. I liked how plot twist were interwoven into story, pacing was great - short chapters were a good choice, narrators did a wonderful job, everything just clicked for me.

Life in Winterspell is pretty idyllic, even during the peak of tourist season. At least, it was—until a psychic serial killer escapes from a supernatural prison and arrives in town. And something tells me she’s not here for the summer jam band showcase. In a twist of fate that could only happen to me, my familiar has been pen pals with the wanted killer, putting us right in her crosshairs.

This was great
Revisado: 01-09-25
This was my second book by Leeanne Slade and now I think she could be one of my favorite romance authors! Her stories are deep and beautifully written, characters are real, human, and flawed, there's always some fun and interesting premise and I'm here for all of it! This one was perhaps a bit too long, but still interesting. Loved the narrators and double POV.

"Rule number one for the perfect murder: Evidence is your enemy. Leave none behind." Jackson (Reid Scott) and Grimes (Cobie Smulders) race to find the killer, setting them on a collision course with the city’s crime underbelly, and a perpetrator who seems happy to toy with them. “Rule number two. No crimes of passion. The perfect murder is always business, never pleasure.”

Amazing actors, mediocre story
Revisado: 01-05-25
Nice little short listen. Great audio production, actors were top notch. Story was ok, silly twist, but the experience as a whole was worth a listen.

However, with the appearance of two old rivals in Winterspell and a harrowing premonition, our dreams fall into jeopardy. Selene has to prove herself right (naturally…), and before I know it, I’m chasing her furry behind smack dab into the middle of a cutthroat world of scheming adventure-seekers, who will do anything for their next big thrill. Let’s just hope she has an escape plan.

Nice surprise
Revisado: 01-04-25
Even though I guessed what happened pretty early on, it didn't take away from my experience. I loved the writing, it had some cringey "trying too hard to be deep" sentences, but overall it was flowing nicely.
The theme was great and I loved the inside scoop of a broken family. Characters felt real and they had nice development.
I never know what to expect from Jeneva, from 3 of her books I've read this was the best, another one was meh and the third one was horrible. Good thing I didn't give up on her after horrible one because I've had a great time with this. 😊

Historia
Sydney Shaw, like every single woman in New York, has terrible luck with dating. She’s seen it all: men who lie in their dating profile, men who stick her with the dinner bill, and worst of all, men who can't shut up about their mothers. But finally, she hits the jackpot. Her new boyfriend is utterly perfect. He's charming, handsome, and works as a doctor at a local hospital. Sydney is swept off her feet. Then the brutal murder of a young woman—the latest in a string of deaths across the coast—confounds police. The primary suspect? A mystery man who dates his victims before he kills them.

Confused
Revisado: 01-04-25
I can't remember the last time I was this conflicted about a book after finishing it. On one hand, the writing was excellent—fast-paced, thrilling, and engaging. The dual POVs and the interplay of past and present timelines worked great. The past POV, in particular, was interesting and well-written. I literally listened to the audiobook in one sitting because I couldn’t stop; I was eager to see how everything would unfold.
On the other hand, the FMC was one of the most poorly written characters I’ve ever encountered. She was irritating, overly self-absorbed, and obsessed with her self-worth, which seemed entirely tied to being in a relationship. Her life revolved around finding a boyfriend, leading her to ignore glaring red flags and make incredibly stupid decisions. No character development. While I understand the intention was to keep the protagonist—and by extension, the reader—confused until the very end, her obliviousness and tendency to “forget” key revelations made her almost unbearable.
The final plot twist genuinely surprised me—I didn’t see it coming at all. However, it felt more like a "gotcha" moment than an organic resolution. I don't feel there were enough breadcrumbs for the reader to piece it together, and some of the red herrings felt like borderline lying. Maybe I was simply too stupid to crack the mystery before the author revealed it, but despite its shock value, the twist didn’t fully land for me.
That said, the narrators were fantastic. They brought the story to life and captured the mood perfectly. I would definitely recommend the audiobook.
Verdict: A thrilling ride with excellent pacing and narration, but a frustrating main character and some questionable plot choices that may leave readers divided.

Refreshing format and brilliant horror
Revisado: 01-03-25
This book was so captivating that I almost listened to it in one sitting and wanted to start it over the moment I finished it. It's such a reread material. Written in an interview format, the story feels incredibly real—so much so that I found myself Googling midway through, wondering if it might be based on a true story. The emotional depth of the characters is exceptional, drawing the reader in with their authenticity and intensity.
What stood out most was the way the story unfolded through the interviews, leaving readers to piece together the events and interpret the truth for themselves. Some things remain a mystery, which only added to intrigue. I especially liked to how the book delved into the darker corners of the human psyche, revealing how little it takes for someone to descend into tyranny. This exploration of the fragility of morality and the shadows within us was brilliantly executed.
This novel has easily climbed to the top of my favorite horror books. The narrators did an extraordinary job bringing the characters to life with their performances.
A must-read (or must-listen) for anyone who loves immersive, thought-provoking horror. Absolute recommendation!

Good thing it was free
Revisado: 12-29-24
Interesting premise and a lot of stomach churning horror scenes, but I kinda wish Stephen King wrote it, so we get longer story with developed characters. Most of the time I had no idea who are the people mentioned so I didn't care what's happening to them. It bother me we never got the explanation what was the creature, and why all that was happening happened, the ending was too rushed. Also, red herrings were so badly written, it annoyed me. I liked Jill was under the influence, that resolution was a great choice. Also, what's with the author's obsession with buttholes?? The narrator was great, I liked his intonation.

Cute, but little boring
Revisado: 12-27-24
Simple, cute and heartwarming holiday story, but maybe a little too much of those things because it ended up being pretty boring. I like how the author writes about Hanukkah, and it was interesting touch that the main story had the same elements like the story the were writing, but it all seemed a little too unrealistic.
