This is one of the best books I’ve listened to in quite awhile. The characters are well-developed. The story flows. The twists are grand. Narration spot on. I highly recommend it.

Historia
Mead House was once our childhood home. Despite my fears, I always knew we would have to return to face the demons of our past. Back to the place where it happened, to where, as carefree teenagers, we lost our elder sister in the most brutal of circumstances. As executors of our grandmother’s will, my twin brother, Ollie, and I needed to empty the house for resale. What I didn’t expect to discover was my sister’s secret journal that contained her most private thoughts and shocking dark secrets.

Historia
The summer in question started out with hot, fun-filled days and new friendships. We had just turned thirteen and had our whole lives ahead of us. But that was before her. Before we became known as the Hixton Five and our lives become defined by one night. It’s hard to believe twenty years have passed since she was locked away. But now she’s free and strange things have started to happen. When I close my eyes, the creeping anxiety and fear is overwhelming and all too real. Because the monster is back, and I know she has a score to settle with us.

The perfect neighborhood can be the perfect place to hide… Who wouldn’t want to live in Brighton Hills? This exclusive community on the Oregon coast is the perfect mix of luxury and natural beauty. Stunning houses nestle beneath mighty Douglas firs, and lush backyards roll down to the lakefront. It’s the kind of place where neighbors look out for one another. Sometimes a little too closely…

Not the best
Revisado: 04-16-25
I have only a few more titles to listen to by this author. This is by far the worst. The main character is beyond awful. If anyone ever calls you a helicopter parent, this is what they mean. Don’t be like this lady. The first three quarters focused almost specifically on her inner monologue of how close she and her daughter are. I really struggled to get through it. It was a slog.
The narrator did a great job although the portrayal of the mom’s best friend made her sound like she was in her seventies.
Overall, don’t waste a credit on it.

Nice twists
Revisado: 04-11-25
Nice twists but this author, while good, focuses too much on women wanting nothing more than to be married and/or having children.
Female narrator was great.
Male narrator was awful. Slurpy, sloppy mouth noises. Editing needs to clean this up. Difficult to listen to him. I will skip anything read by him in future.

Revisado: 04-07-25
Mediocre story with a few interesting twists. The main character was so annoying. Her inner monologues were over the top.
The narrator for the main character had an annoying voice. It was very whispery to the point of distraction.
Overall, I can’t recommend this.
