Historia
Examining murder from an insider’s perspective, Matt Murphy—a former senior deputy district attorney and current ABC News legal analyst—discusses cases from his career, how they strained his personal life, and how he found peace seeking justice for victims and their families. Part taxonomy of murder, part prosecutor’s handbook, and part personal memoir, The Book of Murder goes through a dozen cases and his recollections of his 26 years in the Orange County DA’s office (17 in the Homicide Unit).

Compelling and insightful
Revisado: 07-14-25
After seeing these cases on television, I very much enjoyed learning about the efforts that led to the successful prosecution of these defendants. Murphy is unusually gifted in his ability to “read” these people and prosecute them lawfully. He is remarkably able to “zero in” on who they are and to deal with them fairly but doggedly. I have immense admiration for Matt Murphy. Thank you for writing this book. You are a hero in my estimation! Bravo.

Historia
Corby Ledbetter is struggling. New fatherhood, the loss of his job, and a growing secret addiction have thrown his marriage to his beloved Emily into a tailspin. And that’s before he causes the tragedy that tears the family apart. Sentenced to prison, Corby struggles to survive life on the inside, where he bears witness to frightful acts of brutality but also experiences small acts of kindness and elemental kinship with a prison librarian who sees his light and some of his fellow offenders, including a tender-hearted cellmate and a troubled teen desperate for a role model.

Fabulous Book
Revisado: 07-03-25
This is a very moving story. Addiction, remorse, grief, and forgiveness play huge roles. The cruelty and unyielding harshness of this world are overcome by such compassion and grace. It’s a unique read. Totally in a class of its own. Wally Lamb is such a phenomenal writer. Read it! You won’t regret the effort.

Thought-Provoking and Engaging
Revisado: 05-13-25
This is a story with warm characters whom you love instantly. The identity issues are troubling and interesting. The narrator, however, is just awful. Every time she speaks a word with the letter “s” in it, her voice hisses. It’s very abrasive and distracting. Had the plot been less compelling, I would have returned the book instantly. Will not listen to another read by this person ever again. It was torture.

What an extraordinary book!
Revisado: 04-06-25
I loved the characters. Rounded and flawed people, they were so endearing. The African Gray Parrots were brilliant. I’d never heard of them before and learned a lot from and about them. Monica Wood is now one of my favorite authors. Her care for her characters is evident and remarkable. The narrator was wonderful - thoughtful and carefully paced. I would recommend this one to anyone wanting a new and fresh reading experience.

This is so real. I felt as if I knew her. What a terrible price she paid for her freedom and dignity. Narrator was less than effective - a very harsh voice. But the story - wow! It will grab you and never let go.

I enjoyed this book so much! Perfect narration and a compelling coming of age story. Quindlen is an artist who paints characters so vividly that they become a part of one’s life. I read all of her books and am never disappointed. This one is my favorite.

Historia
Sometimes in medicine the only way to know what is truly going on in a patient is to operate, to look inside with one's own eyes. This audio is exploratory surgery on medicine itself, laying bare a science not in its idealized form, but as it actually is - complicated, perplexing, and profoundly human. Atul Gawande offers an unflinching view from the scalpel's edge, where science is ambiguous, information is limited, the stakes are high. In dramatic and revealing stories of patients and doctors, he explores how deadly mistakes occur and why good surgeons go bad.

The narration is perfect for this very thoughtful book. It’s loaded with information but also inspires a sense of wonder. The decision-making part of medical treatment is so humbling. It was helpful to hear about a variety of cases. The book makes you think about your own health and frailty. It is truly awe-inspiring.

Historia
Geoffrey Lushington, Mayor of Marlow, dies suddenly during a Town Council meeting. When traces of aconite—also known as the queen of poisons—are found in his coffee cup, the police realize he was murdered. But who did it? And why? The police bring Judith, Suzie and Becks in to investigate as Civilian Advisors right from the start, so they have free rein to interview suspects and follow the evidence to their heart’s content, which is perfect because Judith has no time for rules and standard procedure.

Historia
This is Kazuo Ishiguro's profoundly compelling portrait of a butler named Stevens. Stevens, at the end of three decades of service at Darlington Hall, spending a day on a country drive, embarks as well on a journey through the past in an effort to reassure himself that he has served humanity by serving the "great gentleman," Lord Darlington. But lurking in his memory are doubts about the true nature of Lord Darlington's "greatness," and much graver doubts about the nature of his own life.
