Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Outdated and unrealistic
Revisado: 11-30-23
I kept waiting to like this story. The best part was the trial and even that did not redeem the story. Emily’s trauma was not explored deeply enough.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Interesting but a bit boring
Revisado: 05-16-20
It was an interesting story and I kept expecting to get more engaged but in the end I found myself a bit bored. Contrary to other reviews, I enjoyed the narrator and her accents very much. They may have been my favorite part of the story. Well, that and the cat, Diablo.

Historia
In New York City, in April of 1874, a most unusual event took place. A severely abused nine-year-old girl named Mary Ellen Wilson became the first child in America to be rescued from an abusive home. She had been beaten, burned, slashed with scissors, locked in a closet, and had never been outside of her tenement home in over 7 years. Thanks to the concern and dedication of a missionary named Etta Wheeler, the child was finally saved from her cruel captors.

Entertaining
Revisado: 06-13-18
I enjoyed the story but did not like the narrator very much. She has very strange voices for Mary Ellen and other women that I found annoying.. I also prefer autobiographies to this type of third person biography, which is why my reading was slightly lower, but I did think that the content was well researched and quite interesting.

Not as good as Big Little Lies
Revisado: 10-05-17
I bought this book because I was obsessed with Big Little Lies, but for some reason I just couldn’t stay committed to this story. It was truly quite entertaining. It’s the kind of book that is perfect for the beach.

Lots of laughs and twists
Revisado: 08-27-17
I couldn't stop listening to Big Little Lies- it was so entertaining! It reminds me of a Desperate Housewives kind of storyline with lots of drama and lots of comedy too. I can't wait to watch the miniseries now! Also, the reader's Australian accent was fabulous.
