Remember what I said about saving the world? Yeah, apparently the third time is the charm. Turns out our little plan to stop the apocalypse left the gate open for some bastards straight out of HP Lovecraft. Now they've come on through to try to turn the planet into an all you can eat buffet. That's not exactly my jam, so if I want to go on living here, I'll need to find a way to stop them. My name is Frank Butcher, and one way or another, I'm putting an end to this once and for all.

Not for me
Revisado: 07-15-17
I typically love this genre of books, but I had trouble with this one. A great deal of this is my own fault, since this was the first book in the series I have read, and this is the third book, but I was under the impression that they could stand alone. That's not the case. Fair warning if you are looking at this as a young adult novel, it is full of rough language. That doesn't personally bother me, but I know it's a deal breaker for some people. I feel like the narration was decent. It was a little over the top, but not too distracting. The story itself was action packed and exciting, but it felt a little forced. With the success of 14 by Peter Clines, it feels like lots of people are jumping on the Lovecraft bandwagon, and in my opinion, this wasn't the best of the followers. It felt pretty generic.

Not a fan of the narrator
Revisado: 07-15-17
I really wanted so much to adore this book, but I had a problem with the narration. She seemed to over enunciate each word, which felt very forced to me. The tone of her voice was lovely, but both her so called accents, and the crispness of her "t"s and other letters was off-putting to me, especially since a posh sounding voice didn't match with the cash strapped college student main character. Beyond that, the story was fun. It would be a nice read for younger teens or those who enjoy magical YA novels. I don't think I'd continue this series if this is the narrator for the rest though.

When a woman's body is discovered in a cathedral and hours later a young man is found hanging from a tree outside his home, Detective Lottie Parker is called in to lead the investigation. Both bodies have the same distinctive tattoo clumsily inscribed on their legs. It's clear the pair are connected, but how? The trail leads Lottie to St Angela's, a former children's home, with a dark connection to her own family history. Suddenly the case just got personal.

Just ok
Revisado: 07-15-17
I'll start by saying that I really enjoyed the narrator's voice. It was very soothing, but almost too soothing, as I found myself falling asleep while listening several times. I absolutely adore crime novels, but I feel this one falls squarely in the category of "mediocre". It felt unrealistic, although the bones of the story were very good. It tackles some very difficult subject matter. It is a dark story, which I typically like. That being said, I will probably give the second book in this series a shot to see if it hits a stride.

Excellent Cop Drama
Revisado: 07-15-17
I went into this not realizing that it was a show, or a previous set of books, and now I'm excited to read more about Krug and Kellog! This was an exiting and fast paced crime drama. It felt very authentic. The narrator does a great job at pacing, and giving voice to multiple characters. His voice feels very serious, which pairs nicely with the tone of the book. I would really recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good crime drama/mystery! It will keep you on your toes!

A very fun cozy mystery!
Revisado: 07-15-17
If you're in the mood for a fun and easy cozy mystery, this is a great series for you. The narration by Anne James is very good. She has nice inflection in her voice, and a variety of voices for all of the different characters. This is just the type of book I like to listen to when I have other things I'm working on at the same time, because it's not difficult to follow and goes really quickly. It has a good sense of humor to it, and doesn't take itself too seriously, like some mystery novels can. The other good thing about this series is that you can easily pick up a book anywhere in the series, if you are able to score a good deal on one. This was my first Downward Dog Mystery, and now I plan on getting others in the series. Very enjoyable listen!

Terrifying and Brilliant
Revisado: 05-29-17
This book is so good, and it's only improved upon by the narration of Santino Fontana. He somehow brings to life a completely terrifying and psychopathic character in a way that makes the listener identify with him and root for him. This book is not for those with a weak stomach or people who aren't fan of dark characters and stories. It was so twisted, in a new and refreshing way, that I can't recommend it enough.

Interesting interview between author and narrator. Santino Fontana did such an astounding job of bringing to "Joe" to life, that it was interesting to hear his take on the character. If you're a fan of the books, this is worth the listen

Not my cup of tea
Revisado: 05-27-17
Realize, off the bat, that this is a screenplay, not a novella or short story. That definitely makes it a more awkward read for the narrator, that I didn't particularly enjoy. The dialogue was hard to get through, and the whole thing felt unpolished, immature and unpolished. Definitely a shame, because I think there's a good idea here, it just hasn't been fleshed out properly.

If the name seems familiar, these tales about Darby O'Gill and his encounter with the fairies were adapted for a Disney movie, Darby O'Gill and the Little People. They tell the story of an Irishman whose cow is captured by the fairies - or "good people". In his determination to recover his property, Darby finds himself in the center of their home, the mountain Sleive-na-mon.

Fun collection of stories
Revisado: 05-27-17
This is a fun collection of stories about Darby O'Gill, who you may remember from the movie Darby O'Gill and the Little People. The "little people" in these stories are leprechauns. They are sweet and short stories, perfect for listening with the kids in March, or if styling anything about Ireland. The narrator has a beautiful Irish accent, and was a pleasure to listen to. I enjoyed her performance more than the stories themselves. It's a book I'd probably return to in small doses, or as shorter bedtime stories, rather than sitting through all of the stories at once. Very cute though, and definitely an enjoyable listen. The stories contained in this book are "Darby O'Gill and the Good People"; "Darby O'Gill and the Leprechaun"; "The Conversion of Father Cassidy"; "How the Fairies Came to Ireland"; "The Adventures of King Brian Connors"; "The Banshee's Comb".
