This series has been such a rollercoaster! I love it and hate it and laugh and cry (tears of joy, emotionally moved tears and tears of sadness), and I tell strangers about it so that I can laugh and cry about it with them! The interwoven stories leave me wanting the next book as soon as I finish the current one! The author has me completely hooked! SO good. The narration is INSANE! That woman deserves every possible award AND brownies! She brings each character to life in such a genuine and relatable way. It truly is the sparkle on top of a smartly written and gripping series. Amazing! BUT because it’s so good- I’m already upset that I will have to wait for the next book.

The book is amazing and it makes me want to relisten to books 1-10. This is the first LitRPG series I’ve ever read/listened to and I didn’t really know much about the genre but I used to love those choose your own adventure books so what could be bad, right? I was so spectacularly surprised by how quickly I was engrossed in the story and felt a connection to the characters. The story is witty and emotionally provocative. (Did I pull over on a road trip to look for anything to wipe the tears from my face while listening to Gary’s memories? I have no idea what you’re talking about.) These characters are relatable, lovable, hateable, honorable and fantastical AND I completely get all of the tv show references which is another reason why I love this series. The only thing I don’t like is waiting for the next book to be released. (Please release it now)

I couldn’t finish it, it was ridiculous and terrible and read in a way that makes you feel like your listening to an old radio show. Not even ironically good.

I would have given it 5 stars across the board, but the Strega character was an obtuse annoyance at best. BUT she wasn't in the story very much, so I got to really enjoy it without being distracted by Strega's bologna. I liked all the other characters and can't wait to see what jobs they pull off next. I recommend Vachss and the Burke series to anyone who loves a gritty P.I. with a good heart and a band of criminals who represent the idea of honor among thieves!

The characters were well developed then it ends.

I'm disappointed in this book. It had great potential, the characters were wonderful and believable, BUT the story left so many things undone. Why develop a character with such depth and detail, only to end the entire story the way you'd end a chapter? It feels like half a book. The narrator was great. She NAILED the accents. I'm from the area where the character lives and works and she made me laugh out loud at her accuracy. Truly outstanding. The storytelling was detailed and drew me back to my old neighborhood, it really was so- THE END. That's how disappointing the ending was!!!!!
