The bad “reviews” have little to do with the book, but rather folks being triggered by a story set in the time of COVID and the diverse strong opinions that people expressed during that time. I can understand wanting to forget such divisiveness, but to deny that it existed or ignoring the full flavor of stress that soaked every encounter, would deprive the story of the discomfort that honestly enhances Kings conjuring of horror. Great read, even if too real for some.

I found this very helpful, especially when listening with my children who are also learning German. I did not have to explain grammatical concepts, which often would create boring roadblocks to their learning.

What does Wil Wheaton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Wheaton is probably my favorite narrator, period. And, the fact that he was Crusher does give an added "meta" bonus to this particular story.

What made the experience of listening to Happy Accidents the most enjoyable?

She has a great voice and persona.

I like her and I was able to find out about other performances of hers by listening to her book (Lovespring International is hilarious!). There is nothing too surprising in her memoirs, and I did not come away from it seeing the world differently, but it was enjoyable to hear her tell her story in her own voice.

Would you try another book from Jonathan Maberry and/or Ray Porter?

Well, I don't think I'm Mayberry's target audience, perhaps, because most folks love his stuff.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I found the bravado of the characters to be just a bit too gratuitous. For my taste, it just had too much "Listen here, I'm the baddest bad ass in town, and if you don't like it, shove it." While some of that is enjoyable, it seemed like it was the central theme.

Again, it was not bad... it was just hard for me to suspend my disbelief in the face of so much bravado. A lot of other folks thought it was great, and I did listen to the whole thing. Perhaps I was expecting to much from this genre.

Not a bad book, but it also was not profound, nor particularly exciting or funny. I just was never pulled into it and I had hoped - after reading the reviews - that it would have been a pleasure. For me, it just passed the time.

More than about being a comedian

What did you like best about this story?

I expected a story about becoming a comedian, which would have been enjoyable enough. However, I was pleasantly surprised that Greg crafted a story that was vivid, poignant, and relevant, as well as really funny. Thanks!
