Historia
A deep shadow covered the city. Bad times were in the air. We’d barely settled after our previous adventures, when our favorite "collector of forbidden things," Argyle Screed, made a proposal we simply couldn’t refuse. The mission? Escorting a dark, sinister entity named Mr. Shape to Faerie. Ah, Faerie…doesn’t it sound so quaint? I’d never set foot in a deadlier land.

High energy finish to the trilogy
Revisado: 10-26-23
The amazing voice of the narrator kept the story and action going. He infuses just the right amount of grit to the main character while having the others distinct. With twists and turns, this gritty urban fantasy has Abadare & company handling challenges, scraping through Faerie, and surviving Evanora. Grab the first two installments, you won't be sorry. Hopefully the hints at the end will lead to another story!

Interesting characters, fast moving story line, tarantulas & skydiving. Excellent narration by Keira Grace tying it clearly into the first book in the series.

Henri is quite accustomed to dangerous and unusual cases landing in his lap. Being partnered to the Shinigami Detective likely has something to do with it. What he is not accustomed to is the queen herself marching into his lab and handing them such a case.

The continued outstanding performance by the two narrators makes this fantasy mystery story come to life. The story line picks up seamlessly from the previous book. And Clint? Don’t we all want one?

Historia
When the Night Foxes boldly break into the Fourth Precinct’s Evidence Building, it causes quite the stir. As a Magical Examiner, Henri Davenforth is immediately called in. To his astonishment, Captain Gregson has him work the case like a detective. More astounding, he assigns Henri a partner - The Shinigami Detective. The woman is famous for killing the most destructive rogue witch of the century, and no one is quite certain where she’s from. Every officer in the precinct is either in awe of her, or a little frightened by her. Henri is just baffled.

Original and fun
Revisado: 03-12-23
A wild fantasy tale featuring a female FBI agent sucked through a portal by an evil, insane witch into a world with magic, early 1900s technology, and multi-species inhabitants. The pair of narrators are excellent, clearly voicing the characters and playing off each other. A Fun tale, even better in audio than read.

Dull
Revisado: 12-11-17
I have really enjoyed the past books in this series and have tolerated a less than outstanding narrator to hear a really good story. In this case, the dullness of the narration has made it difficult for me to get past the first hour of the book. Since we have missed most of the growing up years of T'Vine, I don't think I expected him to turn into the arrogant and controlling character that he is presented as in the first hour. It simply doesn't match the young concerned man of the previous books.
Perhaps this all is resolved later, but I wasn't able to wade through the boring narration. I have the book on hold through my library, perhaps that will go better....

Historia
Follow New York Times best-selling author Mary Roach - but be careful not to trip - as she weaves through personal anecdotes and everyday musings riddled with her uncanny wit and amazingly analytical eye. These essays, which found a well-deserved home within the pages of Reader's Digest as the column "My Planet," detail the inner workings of hypochondriacs, hoarders, and compulsive cheapskates. (Did we mention neurotic interior designers and professional list makers?) For Roach, humor is hidden in the most unlikely places, which means that nothing is off limits.

Short & Witty
Revisado: 08-11-15
The book is a collection of columns originally printed in Reader's Digest. The subjects vary but are mostly a reflection on daily activities, family relationships, and observations of human interaction. Her wording is clever and phrasing often has a twist or three.
Unfortunately, the narrator's performance doesn't meet the same standard sounding too immature for the material and not conveying the obvious humour in the text.

Excellent
Revisado: 08-11-15
After a disappointing previous book in the series, this entry in the Rainshadow series (Arcane Society related futuristic Society for those fans of Krentz & Quick ) has interesting characters, a rapid and fast moving plot and the action taking place in the story rather than being described in the past tense. It was a relief to have the historical information on Harmony and the society minimised and not repeated as a block from previous books.
Comprehensible as a stand alone novel, past familiarity with the series does add depth. Rosenblatt again does a superb job of voicing the characters while providing nuances that increase the story twists.
And what is not to like about the excellently named Lorelie as dust bunny side kick for a siren.

Airhead, ADD and an interesting cast of characters
Revisado: 07-09-14
Perhaps it is just me, but I really don't think that all female characters in their mid 20s need to be airheads or ditzy. Our heroine gets lost in her internal monologue just a bit too often for my taste. The characters are fairly well developed and provide an interesting enough contrast to keep the plot moving. It would be nice if the narrator provided a bit more contrast between characters voices so that the POV shift didn't get lost in the airhead imitation. Worth the price on sale - don't spend a credit

When Nina Linden is hired to landscape a private island off the New England coast, she sees it as her chance to rebuild her failing business after being cheated by her unscrupulous ex. She never expects that her new client, software mogul Deacon Whitney, would see more in her than just a talented gardener. Deacon has paid top dollar to the crews he’s hired to renovate the desolate Whitney estate - he had to, because the bumps, thumps, and unexplained sightings of ghostly figures in 19th-century dress are driving workers away faster than he can say “Boo.”

Ho, Hum
Revisado: 06-30-14
Even the brilliant performance by Amanda Ronconi can't rescue this tedious, sickly sweet romance. Unlike Harper's other books, this novel has neither fully fleshed out characters nor enough action to keep the plot moving. It is all "tell" and no show. Perhaps it is the switch back to third person POV to tell the tale that made the story awkward, or just all the cut/paste and repeat. But the insertion of several scenes multiple times was just annoying but contributed to the feeling that several of the main characters would not have attained the success in business if they were really that stupid. Read Harper's other books, but give this one a pass.
