Historia
Jennifer Egan’s spellbinding interlocking narratives circle the lives of Bennie Salazar, an aging former punk rocker and record executive, and Sasha, the passionate, troubled young woman he employs. Although Bennie and Sasha never discover each other’s pasts, the listener does, in intimate detail, along with the secret lives of a host of other characters whose paths intersect with theirs, over many years, in locales as varied as New York, San Francisco, Naples, and Africa.

Nice story, terrible narration/ performance
Revisado: 08-07-19
I really love the writing style, the characters, the close realism that draws you into the details of the surroundings and atmosphere of this book.
I cannot stand the narrator. She never stops whispering as if she's reading a story to a toddler about to fall asleep. There is ZERO effort or emphasis or character put into this performance, it is almost unlistenable. Attention to the narrator: SPEAK UP!

Historia
Set in Italy during World War II, this is the story of the incomparable, malingering bombardier Yossarian, a hero who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy - it is his own army, which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to excuse himself from the perilous missions he's assigned, he'll be in violation of Catch-22.

Obnoxious narrator
Revisado: 04-15-19
The performance by the reader of this audiobook renders it almost unlistenable. He sounds drunk, he puts on obnoxious voices for certain characters, he goes from YELLING to inaudible whispers which makes the book impossible to listen to at a consistent volume in headphones. His obnoxious voice, pointless stupid accents and volume changes are distracting and irritating.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

A simply incredible and humbling story
Revisado: 01-13-18
This book unexpectedly awed me. Trevor's standup and Daily Show persona rarely delves so deep into the terrors he faced as a child - I have nothing but respect for him after reading this.

Historia
From thriving Motor City to the largest municipal bankruptcy in American history, Detroit has become the nation's cautionary tale. But what led to the fateful day of the filing, and how did the city survive this crisis? Journalist Nathan Bomey delivers the inside story of Detroit's decline and the people who fought to save it against impossible odds: Governor Rick Snyder, a self-proclaimed nerd; emergency manager Kevyn Orr, a lawyer with singular dedication; Judge Steven Rhodes, the city's conscience; and retirees who fought to ensure that Detroit kept its promises.

Would you consider the audio edition of Detroit Resurrected to be better than the print version?
No. There is dead air until 10 minutes into the audiobook, and it starts in the middle of some random passage. There is an error in the audiofile.

Historia
It's 1963, and Detroit is on top of the world. The city's leaders are among the most visionary in America. It was the American auto makers' best year; the revolution in music and politics was underway. Walter Reuther's UAW had helped lift the middle class. Once in a Great City shows that the shadows of collapse were evident even then. Yet so much of what Detroit gave America lasts.

Amazing story and writing, AWFUL voice performance
Revisado: 02-16-16
Would you try another book from David Maraniss and/or David Maraniss?
Yes - this book is a fantastically written, well-detailed, well-researched story describing Detroit on the cusp of its current modern history.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of David Maraniss?
Anyone but the current narrator. This reader was THE WORST AUDIOBOOK READER I'VE EVER HEARD.
Some congested, monotone, OBNOXIOUS sounding reader ruined the listening experience for me.
