Historia
This full account is of Polk's important pre-presidential career. Since Polk was immersed in so many of the major political developments of his day, and after 1835 the fateful emergence of sectional animosities-his biography is also a history of his generation’s political experience. Professor Sellers has combined the elements with a sure hand, bringing out Polk’s character-his ambition, his determination, his faith in the electorate-and the nature of his friends, his enemies, and the times in which he moved.

A potentially great book let down by bad narration
Revisado: 10-30-19
This could be a great book, however I couldn't make my way through it.
The production is not very good, the audio levels are all over the place and some chapters contain so much background noise that I felt like I was listening to AM radio.
And then there's the narrator. I understand that this type of audiobook can be a challenge to narrate and they can be very dry. This narrator tries to make everything sound like he broadcasting the 9th inning of game 7 of the world series when they're down by one and the bases are loaded with a full count! Everything is over the top dramatic, even the most mundane passages seem to have a false sense of excitement.
This for me made the book unlistenable and I gave up after just a few hours.

Historia
Xero is an expert smuggler. As the ruler of the Tucson Exiles, she hustles supplies for the government and then pumps the desert full of illegal designer drugs on the sly. Catastrophe looms when Yuma goes kaboom, and Trina's cure is destroyed along with it. All that remains is a complicated web spun from Xero's biggest demons: money, germs, and drugs. As she struggles to dig up some Ketacillin, one thought stays with her: Who do you have to kill to get some soap and a hot shower?

Do you root for the anti-hero?
Revisado: 10-13-16
Is Xero the ultimate anti-hero? Not for me. To me, a good anti-hero needs to have a depth of character that she sadly lacks. Having said that, I did enjoy the story quite a bit and found it a good listen. I thought it was well paced and for the most part, well written. I just couldn't warm up to the main character. She was far too much of a hypocrite for my tastes (as well as an awful leader).
PJ Morgan did a stand out job on the narration.

Not your usual Sci-Fi Invasion Story
Revisado: 10-04-16
This is a really faced paced story that seems to draw some of it's inspiration from District 9, with a really great twist at the end!
Jeannie Lin does a great job with the narration, bringing a unique identity to each character.
Overall, this book is well worth a listen.

All you could ask of a good mystery novel...
Revisado: 09-26-16
I'm having tough time writing a review for this audiobook. I enjoyed the story very much but I found it a bit of a mixed bag.
I had a couple of problems with the story, there were times during my listen that I wished the author would "just get to the point" and I found the overall premise a little bit implausible, and I found the way Audrey interacted with her ailing father made me dislike her.
One the plus side, Audrey is a great lead character surrounded by an outstanding supporting cast. Janelle Tedseco's narration was excellent! My only gripe with the narration was voice used for Jill made me want to pull my hair out, but that was probably the point, I guess it's not a gripe as much as it is a complement to Janelle's voice acting skills.
The twists and turns kept me guessing right until the very end, which is what you want from a good mystery.
Overall, I would recommend this book to somebody looking for a good mystery.

Would make a great action movie....
Revisado: 08-05-16
This book is a great listen. Yes, the characters are a little bit one dimensional, but a lot of stuff blows up! Yes, the characters are fairly stereotypical, but a lot of stuff blows up!
The book is full of non-stop action, a little bit of sex, a nice twist ending and some very interesting sub-plots.
If you like these kind of things, it's well worth the credit.
J. Scott Bennett does a great job narrating this joy ride and the production quality is top notch as well.

Historia
In War for the Hell of It, Cobleigh shares his perspectives in a deeply personal account of a fighter pilot's life, one filled with moral ambiguity and military absurdities offset by the undeniable thrill of flying a fighter plane. With well-crafted prose that puts you into his Phantom's cockpit, Cobleigh vividly recounts the unexplainable loss of his wingman, the useless missions he flew, the need to trust his reflexes, eyesight, aggressiveness, and his survival instincts in the heat of combat.

War may be hell, but this listen isn't...
Revisado: 06-07-16
This is an amazing book.
It is so much more than "I got in my plane, flew here, bombed there, and almost got shot down a couple of times."
Ed Cobleigh doesn't shy away from the questionable politics of the war in Vietnam, he also doesn't hide the fact that he very much enjoyed what he did in his F4.
He explores the ethics of his and our countries actions and at the same time made me laugh out loud with some of his side thought explorations.
This is a great listen. An absolute must for any military history or aviation fan.

Wild, weird and wonderful ....
Revisado: 04-14-16
This is a very strange book. It's a "Crossroads" meets "Ghost Whisperer" tale. The protagonist of the story is a guitarist that makes a deal with the devil ... or does he?
Brandt is the leader of the band, he meets up with Wally and is endowed with the ability to "play the pain" of those lost souls around him. Naturally, he has a band and each member of the band also has a unique, supernatural ability. The bassist can actually see the angels (or are they demons, or just lost souls?), the drummer the and the rhythm guitarist also have special abilities. However, more intriguing than their abilities are their back stories. Want to find out more? You'll have to purchase the audio book!
Chris Patton does an outstanding job with the narration on this title. He character voices are fine, but where he really excels is building drama and tension with his voice! A fantastic job!
This is a very wild, very weird, and quite wonderful tale that is well worth the listen!

A story that makes you think....
Revisado: 04-06-16
This book really made me think, it made me think about how horrible addiction can be and the toll it takes on not just the addict, but those closest to them. It made me think about how no matter how hard you try, you will probably play favorites with your children. It also made me wonder, if good parenting can overcome bad genetics.
The narrator did a fantastic job with this material, Michelle Babb was a joy to listen to.

A nice whodunit with a touch of the paranormal...
Revisado: 03-31-16
This was an enjoyable whodunit, with enough turns and twists to keep you guessing until the very end. I really enjoyed the paranormal overtones, it added a “Kingesqe” feeling to the story, without Kings gore and language. Several times throughout the listen, I was certain I figured out who the “killer” was, but I was wrong. Aaron Paul Lazar does a great job with character development, and George Kuch’s narration is very good. His pacing is excellent and you can really feel the tension rise in critical portions of the book.
