Historia
In April 1942, Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew, is forcibly transported to the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau. When his captors discover that he speaks several languages, he is put to work as a Tätowierer (German for tattooist), tasked with permanently marking his fellow prisoners. Imprisoned for more than two and a half years, Lale witnesses horrific atrocities and barbarism - but also incredible acts of bravery and compassion. Risking his own life, he uses his position to exchange jewels and money from murdered Jews for food to keep his fellow prisoners alive.

Life changing read!!
Revisado: 10-18-24
I initially was hesitant to read this as I thought it would be extremely depressing and hard to listen to, but it was more than just a story of the concentration camps of the holocaust. It really had a compelling interesting story between the characters and the plot. There was always something interesting happening and you wanted to just keep reading it. The characters are described so well and the author is truly a gifted writer. it was also performed beautifully! I immediately purchased book 2 in the series after I finished it.

Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

An incredible story
Revisado: 10-10-23
I love this book because I really learned to see what a Muslim feels and the foundations they grow up with. It made me a lot more understanding of their culture. At the same time seeing that with their taught about their culture and what the Koran says are two different things.

Historia
Celebrated historian John Hirst offers a fascinating exploration of the qualities that made Europe a world-changing civilization. The Shortest History of Europe begins with a rapid overview of European civilization, describing its birth from an unlikely mixture of classical learning and Christianity and German warrior culture. Over the centuries, this unstable blend produced highly distinctive characters - pious knights and belligerent popes, and beyond - and its coming apart provided the dynamic of European history in modern times.

With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Historia
When the British fought the young United States during the War of 1812, they knew that taking the mouth of the Mississippi River was the key to crippling their former colony. Capturing the city of New Orleans and stopping trade up the river sounded like a simple task - New Orleans was far away from Washington, out of sight and out of mind for the politicians. What the British didn't count on was the power of General Andrew Jackson.

Spectacular History

I have always loved New Orleans
As a unique American city. Now I have a new sense of this city. Jackson Square, the convent next-door the old French buildings and even the cobblestones I know now came so close to being destroyed. And the battle of 1814 in New Orleans gave our country independence from Britain As equal to the revolution of 1776.
The narrative was easy to listen to and had so many terrific details it was a pleasure to listen to
