Historia
Evan Murdoch hoped things had finally settled down in his life. But now he's caught between two feuding women: his pregnant fiancée and his recovering alcoholic wife, who's fighting their divorce with every dirty, seductive trick she's got. But even that doesn't compare to the dangerous secret Evan's harboring - one that could send a Murdoch to jail for a very long time.

UGH
Revisado: 04-03-25
I can't believe people act this way. How sad this is how I'm seen by others. Over bearing Black women and men being 'taught' how to be women. Society is inundated with the the toxic dynamic of loud Black women saying and doing whatever/however they want no matter how hurtful but nitpick men to an inch of their lives and then the man does a self depreciating song & dance & rolls over like a dog. I'm so glad I did not date & marry in this day & age. I know where all the 'real' men are - they no longer exist.

Too many eye rolls
Revisado: 03-28-25
Why do the female characters have to be so damn exhausting? Books like this make it easy to see why female artists of ANY kind aren't taken too seriously or preferred over men AND why modern men are walking away from Black women in droves. The GAMES - going from 'I don't need anyone' to crying to being strong to indecisive to full grown to acting like a child. ATTACKING THE BOSS! Jesus christ. I'm a woman and this gave me a headache.

When 26-year-old Reese accepts a position as a grad assistant, she has no idea an unpleasant encounter with a student will lead to the discovery of what she calls "the trifecta": fine, intellectual, and a little bit rude - three qualities she finds irresistible in a man. She has no intention of doing anything with that discovery. But everybody knows what happens to best laid plans. Jason is a grown man. He's at Blakewood State University to finish his degree and move on. The last thing he's interested in is the female population on campus...Reese might be a notable exception.

The narration at times is horrible. But I can handle it more than the banter. Do people who like each other talk to each other like this in real life? I cringed at the name calling & overreacting, it was really uncomfortable 😐....exhausting.

Asha's life is no fairytale, by any stretch of the imagination. There was no kind, generous father to care for and protect her from the Vegas that exists beyond the glitz and glamour of The Strip. No wise, doting mother to look over and guide her, passing down essential lessons and leading her to the right path. And certainly, no Prince Charming just around the corner, ready to rescue her from working late nights to cover steadily mounting bills.

Antagonistic female character!
Revisado: 02-28-25
These books are great to listen to but REALLY, this is why relationships end and women are left bitter, antagonistic and destructive. Too proud to say what you feel. Antagonizing the man to the point of anger & then CONTINUING to push. Projecting brokenness and expecting a new partner to do what was never required previously - basically expecting a stranger to fix you WHILST holding back secrets. 🙄🙄🙄 The male characters don't make it any better by catering to nonsense, being emasculated. IRL, he'd be gone.

Historia
The chemistry between Stephen Foster and Nubia Perry is an undeniable fact. The handsome, dynamic former rugby star is used to getting who he wants with minimal effort, but Nubia's steadfast refusal to acquiesce - while also making it clear that she's equally interested in him - is compelling enough to keep his attention firmly planted on her. Even once it's clear that Nubia's polished façade is something she puts on for the public, to hide the scarred, vulnerable woman underneath, Stephen persists. He isn't intimated by the model-turned-mogul's aggressive personality.

Cultural dilemmas
Revisado: 02-24-25
So many mixed feelings. My issues with this book are all cultural. The disrespect many Black women dish out to Black men is embarrassing. I wonder what this author thinks her contribution to society is with her books. In this book we have the perpetual angry Black woman who was raised by a single mother and of course, she (mom) 'didn't need a man....so neither does she'. This trope was actually celebrated instead of allowing for alternative narratives. The main female character is the perfect example of why many Black men stop dating Black women or can't stand them. This author thought it'd be great to continue pushing this toxicity into Black culture.

Historia
Bernadette "Bernie" Hunt excels in life, but love is another story. Being gorgeous, smart, and from a well-to-do family, she has no shortage of high-society suitors vying for her attention, but when measured against her father, none seem good enough. This changes when she meets Keith Davis, a hotshot lawyer recently hired at her father's firm. Being new to Atlanta from New Orleans, Keith's past is somewhat of a mystery. The day Keith proposes to Bernie is one of the happiest of her life. She has found a kindred soul who seems to bring everything to the table, including a dark secret.

Historia
Thirty years ago two sisters disappeared from a shopping mall. Their bodies were never found, and those familiar with the case have always been tortured by these questions: How do you kidnap two girls? Who or what could have lured the two sisters away from a busy mall on a Saturday afternoon without leaving behind a single clue or witness? Now a clearly disoriented woman involved in a rush-hour hit-and-run claims to be the younger of the long-gone Bethany sisters.

I do not like how death was glossed over as if it were just a blimp on a screen. The read was great until the unraveling. That part is just disturbing.

Read the book
Revisado: 12-16-24
The narration is horrendous. I also hate when women are portrayed as tough strong girl bosses YET acts so moronic & childish around a man. 'I like him, but can't tell him, he needs to read my mind. I'll act uninterested while repeatedly accusing him of having a girlfriend'. So exhausting. I couldn't finish. The murder is interesting & I'd like to know what happened but this grown up insane school girl crush along with the horrendously ridiculous narration, I don't care about the murder.

Historia
My fiancé brought me tea and scrambled eggs in bed that morning, and we snuggled together, talking about buying our rings, and about our perfect wedding next year. Then we headed into town. He held my hand and gazed at the ring I liked best, a smile spreading slowly over his face. Then a glass of bubbly to celebrate. I felt flushed, excited and ready for the rest of my life with the man I loved. We race to get on the train home. It screams to a halt and I run towards its open doors. Made it. I think he’s right behind me — but when I turn around, he’s gone.
