Book One Well Be Enough For Many
Revisado: 03-18-22
This is a short review covering all three books in The Saga of the Elven trilogy. Book One is 28 hours. Books Two and Three are around 12 hours each.
If this was a review of just Book One, I would have given the book a solid four stars. Books Two and Three lower the average to three stars, ie, "pretty good".
After reading the trilogy, most of what could have been said of the characters and their world was revealed in Book One. There is minimal world and character development in Books Two and Three. Book Three is a slap-dash run to the finish line.
I think you may enjoy Book One and at 28 hours it is good value for money. If you really liked Book One (as I did), buying Books Two and Three may be a waste of time and money.
Stick to Book One and you will be a happy camper.

At Best, This is a Young Reader Novel
Revisado: 05-17-21
I know there must be better words, but the only ones I have found so far are either "preachy" or "self-righteous". The book is not only preachy, but written on a 5th grade level. Adding insult to injury, over the course of almost 25 hours of listening, nothing much happens.

Recorded Too Hot
Revisado: 02-21-21
Its a great story and I don't object to the narrator, but the recording tires my ears after a short time listening. I believe this is caused by recording too hot (recording levels too high).

Great Beginning - Mediocre Ending
Revisado: 01-08-21
It started strong. I didn't buy into the acts of the main character as a 10 and then 14 year old boy, but I held my skepticism. All and all, I enjoyed the first half of the book. The evilness was enjoyable.
About three quarter the way through, the book began to veer off course. A number of the changes in the story were so abrupt, that I thought my download was missing pieces. It was not.
Many books of this genre could use a good editor to shorten it a bit. This book needs another one or two hundred pages to make it a great story.

Star Wars on a Budget
Revisado: 12-07-20
This book looks to provide the story foundation for many more to come. This is Star Wars in many, many respects. The book is one Star Wars trope after another. If you like Star Wars, this shouldn’t be a problem.
It was good enough - I purchased the second volume.

Historia
This brilliantly readable work of history tells the bizarre story of the Ottoman Empire as seen through the lives of its extravagant and tyrannical sultans. With their absolute power, their love of pomp, and their overwhelming venality and corruption, rarely has a great empire been ruled by such grotesque and awesome figures. For 400 years, they fought wars, terrorized their subjects, made Turkey into a great empire, and then allowed her to decline into ostentatious and impotent decay.

Beginning Guide to the Ottoman Empire
Revisado: 10-18-20
Who are the Ottomans. What are the Ottomans. Who the hell were those guys Lawrence of Arabia was fighting. Well, seat down and listen.
Starting before Christopher Columbus and ending around World War II, a short and painless history of the Ottoman Empire will unfold.
It may take a chapter or two to get accustomed to the reader, Frederick Davidson, but I believe you will come to enjoy the voice.
My only criticism, the author takes for granted knowledge that the reader may not have or has forgotten during the reading.

1936 Berlin: An interesting time, place and people
Revisado: 01-27-20
The Weimar Republic has collapsed and the National Socialist Party (Nazi) is on the ascent. Berlin is a very "interesting" (maybe not the right word) place at the time of the 1936 Olympics. This is a period in history that I have never explored.
You have to drink some Kool-Aid to enjoy this tale. Most of the characters have a hard outside, but a heart of gold. Again, drink the Kool-Aid and you should be fine.
I thought the narrator, Jefferson Mays did a great job. I liked his tone and the way he voiced the different characters. The accents were enough without overdoing them.

I was onboard for the first two installments of this series. The third book is a bridge too far. Submarine-islands and kamikaze-bio-mechanical bad guys are the stuff of sci-fi and not fiction fantasy.

A witty exploration of the facts and legends surrounding some of the most popular French foods and wines by a French cheesemonger and an American academic, A Bite-Sized History of France tells the compelling and often surprising story of France from the Roman era to modern times.

A Great Book for Audio
Revisado: 01-20-20
A wonderful book about the people, history and foods of France. There are some forty chapters in the book. Each chapter stands more or less on its own. Much of the book concern the cheeses and wines of France and the people and places that made them famous.
If you are a history buff, foodie or francophile, you will like this book.
