Curses aren't real. At least, that's what twelve-year-old, half-Hawaiian Anna Leilani Kama'ehu thinks when she listens to her grandmother's folktales about sacred flowers and hexes. Anna's friends back home in Colorado don't believe in legends either; they're more interested in science and sports—real, tangible things that stand in total contrast to Anna's family's loopy cultural traditions.

Must read good vibe lift you up
Revisado: 10-29-24
I got this book for some mixed kids and their parents to read to them. I wanted to read it first to be apart of that story sharing and make sure it was good as many mixed kid stories are tragic and sad. This! So good! For adults and kids a great story easy and spirit lifting. It’s worth your time any age especially for indigneous mixed folks feeling displaced or disconnected at times.

The best of trek
Revisado: 09-17-21
Wow. Just wow. This book was everything I wished for in a discovery book. The characters felt like the characters in the show. The reader was engaging and just executed things so well. The world building and character development was in depth enough but not so deep it was tiring. Pace was just exciting enough without feeling too fast and kept me coming back. This book has me rewatching the third season with deeper love for the series and characters than even before. Seriously loved this and recommend to everyone who’s made it to season three episode 1. It’s the pause between that episode and the next it feels like. The year between. I’ve gone through all the discovery books now and this is the One!
Get this book Trekkie it’s worth it! Please more by this author and reader.

Disappointing
Revisado: 05-24-20
I loved his previous work and this started really strong but then just drifted into a journal entry about his own experience with coffee. I loved this historical part and political part but that dropped off for what seemed like overly rambling self focused monologue. I would recommend the first part then just listen to anyone who ever drank coffee e plain the rest perhaps with less of a privileged lacking of a workers struggle experience.

Mismarketed
Revisado: 05-22-20
Felt this suggested a horror story and maybe it gets there but the cheese cop show voice acting made it impossible to wait for the hook. Voice acting was perfect for a New York cop book maybe?

Historia
The Indignities of Being a Woman candidly traces the history of womanhood and investigates how much things have really changed for womankind. By carefully x-raying areas such as body image, marriage, mental illness, fashion, and politics, this audiobook examines what it was like to be a woman in the past versus what it’s like now, when women are constantly told equality between the sexes exists but reality proves otherwise.

Not enjoyable
Revisado: 04-26-20
The personality of the writer was so much thicker than any history. It was hard to listen to I kept trying but could not keep with the bad jokes and drunk aunt telling a story style. Might be for others not for me.

Essays may just not be my style
Revisado: 11-15-19
The first and last chapters are the same as her tedtalks almost verbatim and aside from chapter 3 the rest felt strangely random and meandered from why I wanted to read it. Well read and funny but not for me.

Too slow and transitions off for audio

I listen every few days and the story seems to barley crawl forward. Love the concept but the main character and the pace didn’t keep up.

Richard H. Thaler has spent his career studying the radical notion that the central agents in the economy are humans - predictable, error-prone individuals. Misbehaving is his arresting, frequently hilarious account of the struggle to bring an academic discipline back down to earth - and change the way we think about economics, ourselves, and our world.

Too common sense
Revisado: 07-09-18
I don’t feel I needed to pay for this and regret the purchase. If you want to sit around and glorify corporations for their marketing h skills and then state common sense facts that any Millenial knows about how our world works then get it. If you want to learn something new try something else.

Damn. So good. Gotta hear this story!
Revisado: 01-08-18
I literally had to leave my phone and home and go for a walk after finishing this audiobook.
It was the only thing I could do to keep myself from immediately starting the book again.
There was some moments of serious sadness it was over. It’s a phenomenal book. I didn’t even know what I was getting into.
The opening and closing conversations between the actual and fictional writers made no sense to me what so ever at the beginning, by the end I was like ohhh...clever...very clever. Took the whole book to understand the opening piece and the “artifact” sections but it’s worth the wait if your a bit slow like me.
Just realized this badass writer is behind some zombies run stuff too which I love and now two good worlds collided. Anyway, 100% recommend.
